150 engines on land for the size 3 field.

Right now I have 108 operating on land (108 single engine fighters), plus 50 stood down (25 two engine fighters). That counts as total stacking of 124 (see post earlier this page).

I also have 72 engines afloat (12 two engine and 12 four engine flying boats).

133 LBA + 24 afloat = 157 aircraft total.

I wasn't aware a level 3 airbase could efficiently accommodate 157 aircraft.

I need to study this area of the war more.

Not 157 aircraft - 150 engines (50 per level). That means 75 X two-engine bombers. This is (I think) meant to be an approximation of the space taken up by aircraft on the tarmac/apron and dispersal areas. Having more than that amount means crowding and that inhibits launching coordinated missions.

Note that you still need the right number of Air Support points to handle the number or aircraft (for support like fuelling, arming and maintenance), and that there is an admin limit on the number of squadrons at the base (base AF level +1) but Air HQs can increase that (not sure by how much).

The armor will arrive tomorrow for a full attack the day after, hopefully allowing for greater destruction of Imperial units. The southern armoured unit is down to 43% disruption. The USA 475th Rgt convoys will now head to Kiungshan. In the north, on the road from Tsuyung to the Chungking plain, the Imperial appear to be in full withdrawal.

Major fighter sweeps will start tomorrow against Hong Kong, Canton, and Kweilin. The day after, the 4EB will start closing Hong Kong and Canton airfields.

The IJN is being further ground down in the Singapore region.

Haruna is reported sunk, but we did not see her before battle so not seeing her now is small comfort. Our LSI(L) convoy is at Utan Melintang unloading, but have no cover. DE Arrow was dispatched as ASW cover, but ran into Haruna. Valiant and Queen Elizabeth were cover for today - and did the job - but the fast battleships are a few hours away and the Queens are extremely low on main battery ammo. And "BB CV" are sighted 1 hex southwest of Utan Melintang. Burnett will head there even though low on ammo as he might arrive before the fast BB can.

On land the armour has made it to Georgetown, which now shows 3 units; they will attack at once. The Imperial troops at Taiping are actually moving east into the jungle, in the direction of Kota Bharu. Our infantry divisions are moving slowly down the rail bed toward Taiping so the armour will probably arrive first in spite of the longer trip and coming fight at Georgetown. Down at Utan Melintang the 14th Air Landing Bde is arriving quickly, with 49 AV on hand so far. It looks like about a week to air lift the entire unit.

The attack at Long Son went well and the number of enemy troops detected by recon has dropped to about 27,000.

The infantry will rest tomorrow while the artillery continues.

The convoy carrying the 8th RAAF Base Force needs two days to pass to Singkawang - keep your fingers crossed!

At Naha only the 2nd Marine Division needs more time to recover, but they need at least two more days. Weather has been bad and the B-29 strikes seem ineffective, but the naval bombardments are still hitting home. Of course the troop count from recon has gone up slightly!

The Tokunoshima assault convoys will take almost a week to reach Daito Shoto.

Our subs had a quiet day.

The sweeps over China went very well today, see air losses below. The sweeps will continue tomorrow, and Canton airfield will be attacked by the 4EB which are just relocating to Vinh (from Hue). Three divisions and all armor attack in the forest NE of Pakhoi tomorrow, which should blast open the road to the river opposite Wuchow.

The 475th will begin unloading tonight at Kiungshan. CL Denver and escort will be joined by a 2x CL TF, including damaged Helena. She has continued operating despite 2x 5 inch mounts damaged when hit by kamikazes near Taytay.

All three Imperial units at Georgetown were destroyed.

The armour will move on to Taiping as fast as possible while an engineer unit makes its way to Georgetown to clean up. The 3rd Commando and 50th Para Bdes will cross the river to the SE of Utan Melintang and move into Temuloh to cut the road and rail in both places. The position NE of Utan Melintang is no longer needed: if the Imperials retreat to that open terrain it will hasten their demise.

Our convoy unloading at Utan Melintang was not attacked and is still unloading supply at day's end, all troops ashore. Avengers from Alor Star hunted at Singapore.

General attack tomorrow.

The enemy troops at Merak have vanished under the weight of close air strikes. The commandos land tomorrow at Oosthaven. The base force convoy is almost at Singkawang and has not been spotted. 10 Group RAAF air HQ was partially air lifted in today and should be there entirely in one or two more days, which will put Singapore within range of torpedo carrying LBA.

Our troops at Naha are well recovered in disruption and fatigue. With 2,268 AV they will attack tomorrow. Weather is again forecast rain, but the B-29 groups have been flying in it so hopefully the CVE Avengers will also. As before the Iowas will add to the bombardment. Our destroyers on guard north of Daito Shoto were again targeted, this time by two large, well escorted raids. Attack runs were made but no hits on our ships. Thunderbolts and Corsairs saved the day.

Threw in the sweep over Singapore for no extra charge!

Singapore and Kunming have been swept every day for some time now. At Kunming I am trying to prevent another ambush of our strikes on enemy troops. Below are all the sweeps for the day, so some of the fighter losses were escorts of the raids on our DD TF.

Naha - I know. Here is the deal. The troops are in good shape and could only recover more AV. That is certainly important, and so is more softening up. But the higher the fortification level the more resistant troops are to bombardments both naval and aerial. So, even if it hurts I am looking for a net gain if this attack drops the forts by a level, just like the first attack did. That will make every bombardment and air strike do more, every day.

Andav could be doing much better, especially at Canton.

He probably shouldn't even defend when it is just one Squadron on defense, unless he breaks them into thirds and then you suffer from poor leaders in two of three splinters.

Settings, settings, and settings. Oh my. He is just handing you those planes.

Talk about your strategic bombing plans, if any? Go visit Honshu again why don't you? Keep Andav honest, and wasting a lot of fighters there.

I just checked: the first attack was November 7th. This one will be November 12th, so a 5 day period. I don't see it getting any shorter unless and until the base is about to fall. Fortifications were reduced to 5 last time, so I am hoping to reduce them to 4 this time.
