No, Andy says he will not base strat bombers in China and only use Chinese units.
He can hit Chinese bases from Malaya though, B-29s have been there already.
The good thing is that lots of forts and 3-4000 AP are waiting for Andy in Burma. No quick road to victory there [:)]

That's true Joe, I don't have any objections really. China has been a gentlemans agreement with no obligations either way.
I stopped attacking in China when I could have captured all of it - could probably have done so some time into 1944 - but not anymore.
It's nice of Andy to not base 100's of P-38s and B4s there and give a notice. The timing is a bit opportunistic though...but I'll see what I can
do. Should still be able to scrounge an LBA bombing force, can't use it efficiently in the Pacific anyway. Some 300 green/mediocre Franks should
be able to handle the P40Ns!?

Andy has offered to wait 3-4 weeks before re-opening the Chinese Air War.
He has a point that it would now be possible to upgrade his fighters to the P-40.

What's the range of the P-40N? 8 hexes?

I got a last chance to train some George and other fighters.
Dave marched these Chinamen far far away - some 20 hexes from the closes Chinese hexes.

A shame that Andy destroyed such a fine vessel......however, her memory must be remembered with the hopeful sinking of an American carrier or two, which would be a blow to Andy.

Say, are there any other planes that have been added after the Shinden or is the Shinden the last one? I do know that the Japanese were working on other projects, even more powerful than the Shinden......

In one game, I negotiated a truce in China to preserve my ability to train but in return to promise not to do any more damage to China.

So things like .. I could not bomb/attack in anyway .. Chinese cities ... and neither could he.

But both of use could attack LCUs with non-LBA aircraft (LBA can train using the supply trick .. so they don't need to fly missions).

There were some other rules about where we could move ...

(1) Once the training program is "distracted" the ability to turn out trained units within a useful timeframe is up in smoke ...

(2) City bombing .. can destroy the resources and HI thus further accelerating the end of war ...

There are few places on the map, where the Allies can get those kinds of benefits ...

The only place better than China for mounting a strategic bombing campaign on the Home Islands is the Soviet Union --- although if you try that too early the Soviet air force can be bled white by the Japanese.

As to whether or not you get a month.... Well, it doesn't really matter. Without the ability to train pilots freely in China your air force will, soon, be useless for anything except kamikaze strikes with the exception of some of your very latest fighter squadrons.
As to the Reppu... I wasn't too impressed by it. It is a lot better than the A6M series which it replaces ( and so is useful) but it pales into comparison against the Shinden... which performed very well against even Corsairs when I tested it ( albeit with equal experiences).

P40N range 6/8 FYI ..

Frenks should eat these for lunch imo. might be great training for
40-50 lvl pilots imo. depends on chiese quality though. good pilots in P40N's can be dangerous.

The P40N is the worst Allied fighter in use from 43 on IMO.

Nope, the Shinden and Reppu are the two last ac to join the game. While the Reppu was ready for production by 8/45,
this can't be said to be true of the Shinden. Guess Matrix felt that Jap players in late 45 needed something to look forward to, or what Joe? [;)] Too bad that not more coming types were added on both sides, like the US Bearcat.

Still, I will manage to train enough of my pilots. Andy has decided to wait until March 1st until re-opening the air war in China and will not put Allied units there until April 1st.

We will fight him, got some 150 Franks on training already that will meet the P40s!
My George Daitai's are in relatively good shape, with 54 ac they usually have some crack pilots left.
All Jacks also upgrade to the Shinden, giving me some 500 potential Shindens [8D]

There is 15 hexes from Marcus to the Home Islands, B24's can't get there!
There is 26-27 hexes to Tokyo from Wake though, so the B-29s can get there at maximum range. Better but a couple hundred
CAP fighters in place.

I'm concluding the transport effort to the Bonins for now, ships will be going home and most of the air force will depart except
for some CAP fighers, night naval bombers, local range 0 naval bombers and kamikazes. Will continue flying in troops to Bonin.
Iwo is considered safe for now with 80k supplies and 100k troops.

Can B-29s fly from a L5 at max range? I thought that they only max from a L7 or higher level base.

That's possible Nelson, must admit that I'm not sure. Never operated B-29's before.
It so, that means the Home Islands are still safe. That would make the sacrifices at the Bonins worthwhile [:)]

Level bombers flying out of a small airfield cannot fly at extended range, and will be treated as if they are flying at extended range when bombing targets at normal range.

in order to avoid these penalities, the size of the airbase needs to be equal to:
4+(Max load of aircraft/6500)

Thus, an A-20 requires a min size 4 base, a B-17 requires a min size 5 base, and B-29 requires a min size 7 base.

Also, in that section it talks about operating at extended range, which has a higher loss ratio in operational losses. The Marianias are 21-23 from Tokyo and HI; which puts the B-29s always at extened from Guam, Saipan, and Tinian. That is one of the reasons I had a lot of B-29s against Sonny.

A relative quiet turn sees the first massive 4E wave from Wake hit Bonin.
Doesn't seem like Andy will stop his attacks from the sea either.

It's a bit unfortunate that this China incident comes simultanously with the battle for the Bonins
reaching its climax. Andy should have captured Wake and Marcus before landing in force. The effect of the
4Es together with massive Mustang sweeps would have severly reduced his need for navy support.

Personally I think Andy is pushing way to hard according to the present strategic situation. It would
be like the Allies tried to land in France in 1943! He have to take the problems and losses accordingly.
It's not like Japan hasn't suffered either either.

I will do my best to delay him for as long as we can. When we get the Shinden we will be able to resist him
in the air again, even if the Bonins fall. It's helpful that Marcus and Wake are both out of bomber range from
the Home Islands.

Will also try to scramble 1-150 LBA to hit Wake, forcing Andy to CAP it and not cram it with 4Es.
I've sent some seplane tenders closer to Marcus, Andy has spotted several of our ships. Let's see what his reaction
will be. I'm moving the Taiho further east. Weather is horrible in the region for the time being.

More than "how many" I think "to what level" is a bigger issue. If the rationale is that Japan could have put in place better training than they had.. then I would think you wouldnt allow them to train up to 60 or 65 I guess.. that is, a normal trained pilot..

When Andy saw an opportunity to close down your training he was willing to take it, exploit it and wreck your air force. Why, just because he can't do this, should you limit your training programme?

Yes, some may say that Andy's USN pilot pool is too low... and that almost certainly is true... BUT the inability of the Japanese to increase their pilot training is ALSO a major game flaw and, let's be honest, Andy could more than compensate for his low USN pilot numbers if he just focussed on developing airbases and bringing his army air force more fully into the fray. E.g. At the end of the battle he had his first major strikes from Wake. If he'd just been a bit more patient he could have used P-51s and four-engined bombers at Wake to attrit your air force, keep your airbases closed and rain four-engined bomber love down on your ships whenever they tried to intervene.

The end result of this would have been that Andy would have been able to invade Iwo Jima in about 2 months time when Iwo and Bonin were out of supplies, had port damage of 100, airbase damage of 100 and highly disrupted ground formations. At that point in time you could have sortied KB and lost it to no gain but he WOULD have been succesful and he would have suffered FAR LESS loss.

It isn't up to you to limit what you are able to do in order to compensate for the mistakes he made because of his impatience and failure to prepare things properly. In any case he has a MASSIVE material preponderance and while you have seen him off now you CANNOT see him off if he ever prepares an invasion properly. It is entirely correct that when the Allies fail to properly prepare an operation and the Japanese put up an exemplary defence that the Allies should fail. This is what has happened here and it is entirely correct. You shouldn't go carving up your ability to mount a succesful defence in the future just because the Allies got impatient and F'ed up.

In any case your defence succeeded in large part because of your ability to bring KB and the surface fleet to bear. If you hadn't been able to bring them to bear I think your defence may have failed. Next time he tries even an unprepared attack KB will not be able to answer him and your surface fleet will be much reduced so he should succeed.


Well, that's all a long way of saying that it is Andy's job to do things properly and win. it isn't your job to make things easier and easier for him until he eventually wins. Even if you were willing to do that it would be a disservice to your opponent. Winning is absolutely meaningless, playing against the very best your opponent has to offer - the competition, being pushed to your limits - is what matters and if you lower your game you aren't being fair to either yourself or your opponent... or those who follow this AAR ( although they are obviously by far the least important of the three).

It is up to you PzB to decide!

I agree with Nemo, Andy should be more patient and prepare his offensive(s) better. I know what i'm talking about - he already throw P-38Js in his game against me, just after ( i guess) three weeks of P-38Js production. He already lost 53 of them and his offensive capabilities are now limited.

I would totally agree with Nemo in all other aspects that there is no one little thing: both PzB and Andy disscused about certain issues in the game and there is few gentelmen agreements (no uber CAP with massing carriers) still running in this game...

so, I would say that this is between you guys and whatever you agree it will be a better solution than listening us JFBs![:D][;)]

Much truth in what is said. Still, this game is a two player effort and both sides have to feel that they
enjoy the game. I don't want to stop my training program completely, but I'm willing to reduce it in size and
length. Think this is fair since Andy has been positive to impose restrictions on how he deploy his forces.
Would have been better if we discussed this a month earlier though!-)

It's uncertain whether Andy will reinforce the Bonins, I think so. Building our air power again.
Iwo is again 0 damage after a 4E strike.

Enemy activity near Miri is the typical diversion manouver. The reserves I got for the DEI have been
rested, so he may divert as much as he would like [;)] A more annoying fact is that 4-5 undefended bases like
Imphal may be in range of enemy paras from Andaman. Grumble, may have to fly in a garrison.

Not much happening in the Bonin-Marcus area. Andy is staying put with his carriers.
Lots and lots of TFs at Marcus Island, guess they're either loading up troops for a second run
to Iwo - or to go somewhere else!

A quick look at our navy roster shows that we got 6 battleship and 1 carrier with moderate damage: 20-30 sys.
There are 9 cruisers with varying damage as well as 20 destroyers and 30 subs.

Not much, but give me some time and I'll put together the fleet again [8D]

Tony production is gradually being switched over to the new model: within 2 weeks we should be able to upgrade
our first Sentai.

Enemy Evacuation of Miri

We lost some fighters on LRCAP over Miri as enemy Coronado's came flying in to pick up troops.
The enemy carrier CAP resisted in this unseen battle and some 40 ac were lost in total on both sides.

Weather is poor, so we rely on an opening to hit the enemy tomorrow.
If Andy is evacuating, as it looks like, we will consider it a victory. Even if Andy intended is a decoy
mission, we have worn down an enemy division for relatively few losses. Our air units are still intact as losses
have been gradually made good by new recruits.
