Q3: I think the British 'Firefly' was an upgunned version of the Sherman, but it's been a long time since I got Crescendo of Doom.

Yes the british fitted their famous 17 pounder anti-tank gun on the sherman tank, one of the most successfull allied (URSS not included) tanks of WWII. Could almost fight toe to toe with the german panther.

The Missouri is docked at Pearl Harbor these days, alongside the Arizona Memorial. It is mostly restored/refurbished and if you want to visit they have daily tours. My chorus will be performing on Veternas Day for the sunset service (on the fantail, as we have been doing for the past 4 or 5 years).

The HMS Prince of Wales carried Churchill to Newfoundland to meet Roosevelt, I believe.

When I was 14 I visited the Missouri and signed my name on the wood deck under one of the turrets.

Wosung got that one right. The USMC without even any combat veterans repulsed the first Japanese invasion of Wake.

At Dieppe the attacking forces intended to withdraw regardless of results, so I guess that one doesn't count.

Not correct.

Patton had command of the "fake" 1st US Army Group, whose goal was making the Germans believe the landing was coming at the shortest point across the channel at Calais.

This plan had a name but I don't remember it.
