Fun fact : I didn't see any goals on live
I started watching at 00:15 and was in the toilet during the "festival".

Perhaps I should stop watching so they keep scoring.

This sounds like a GOOD game. Maybe Fred better start his dramatics to get them back in the game!

I may poke alot of fun at Soccer but in reality I like to watch it when i'm at my favorite Irish or English watering hole. In truth though its the Flopping or "Diving" that turns me off, esp. when it impacts a match.

read a really interesting article recently asking if maybe American teams should embrace the European and South American attitude and just incorporate it into their game. Perish the thought. I think if ever there was a sport that needed Instant Replay (or more refs) its Football/Soccer. Then again that would not mesh so well with the timer always on aspect.

Sounds like this game is full of soccer skill on display. Thats what i like to see.....because I can't kick a soccer ball worth CRAP. (and many years of little league only made me worse! Time for a new sport)

Yeesh. Yes, clearly the loss of Silva was vital. Not like Dante or Luiz are pikers, though. The shame is that the yellow that kept Silva out was a real mental flameout by him in the Colombia game. He easily should be playing today.

You would expect a football country like brazil to overcome the loss of one or two players... I mean, 0-7 at home during a semi final of a worldcup... For most of the goals I just saw 3 players MAX defend.. THREE..

This is painful to watch. The entire coaching staff surely fired, yes? Not sure it's really fair, but in the hothouse of pressure that is Brazil, I can't imagine any other outcome.

After the 2nd it just looked like the Brazilian players were in shock, and so tentative. I think this is the pressure, and without Silva and Neymar the passion we saw in the Columbia game was nonexistent.

This will be hard for those players for a long, long time. Have to feel for them.

Agreed. I remember Italy in 1990 and Germany in 2006. They were gutted of course but at least neither were humiliated like Brazil have been. This is an absolute shocker and I feel really sorry for the players....

I'm still stunned at the result of the match. Brazil isn't that bad and Germany isn't that good, but every once in a while disaster strikes and this time it hit hard. I'll be very interested in the consolation game on Saturday to see how the team responds to such a crushing defeat. No, make that a disaster. The only result that could've been worse would be this kind of trouncing at the hands of Argentina.

I'll recover tomorrow at a BBQ and then watch the Netherlands v Argentina.

Would Brazil rather see a European side win the World Cup on South American soil for the first time, or see their archrival Argentina win in Brazil to preserve the streak? Neither option would be good to me from a Brazilian perspective.

I don't see that as a tough one. Brazil are out, they are hurting - and boy are they hurting - but as to who wins? Who cares? The country is shell-shocked and in mourning. Ah, except one thing - the nightmare scenario. Their fierce rivals Argentina winning on Brazilian soil would be a knife to the heart.

The rivalry with your neighbours is the biggest in football, whether it's country - Scotland vs England, inter city - Liverpool vs Manchester or local derby -Tottenham vs Arsenal - these are the big ones. To paraphrase Winston Churchill, as a Spurs fan, if Arsenal were playing Bealzebub's XI, quite frankly, I would be rooting for the devil [;)]

So for Brazil, Argentina winning a 3rd world crown in the Maracana would be er.... highly unpleasant.....

The "Brazilian bubble" had to burst at some point... it was just a question of time!

BTW, this Brazil is not a shadow of Brazil from the past that we all love to watch... [:(]

In group Brazil won over Croatia with the help from referee (Neymar not getting deserved red card for hitting Modric, not existing penalty for Brazil and disallowed regular goal for Croatia), they played 0:0 with Mexico and only beat the weak Cameroon. After that it was 1:1 against Chile and lucky penalties that got them through. In quarter finals it was 2:1 against Colombia (again with regular Colombian goal disallowed by the referee)...

All in all the Brazil had huge support from referees (for being the host country) - their actual play was mediocre at best!

IMO, Brazil collapsed because they followed the same plan that most South American (and South European) teams do: take one or two mega stars and then have the rest of the team support them. When you then lose those mega stars, the rest of the team have no idea what to do with themselves.

Still, 7-1. It's unheard of.
