No rail movement.

Balbo relocate his HQ to Genoa.

The MTN in the Italian Alps move to La Spezia.

The Italian division on Sardinia move over the straits to Corsica.

The TERR in Eritrea advance to the West and the TERR is Somaliland advance to the Southwest. The TERR in Tunisia advance North in Tunisia.

New units advance into the Italian Alps.

The Milizia Voluntaria per la Sicurezza Nazionale occupy Djibouti.

Japan occupy Nanning. This does not make the news.

Army Group Yamamoto concentrate on Kweilin.

Over to Warspite1 for the German movement.

Land Movement (Cont)

Operation Weserubung (Sud) is ordered by OKW. XXXVIII Motorised Corps is ordered to head straight for Copenhagen - and meets no resistance on the way. King Christian X has, quite sensibly, ordered his army to lay down their arms as resistance would be simply a waste of life. The motorised 1st PanzerJaeger Division, somewhat angry at missing out on the main event, is ordered to head north to the naval base at Frederikshaven at great speed. A battalion of motorcycle troops, attached to the division, reaches the base by midday - but it is too late. Earlier that morning the Danish naval top brass took the decision to sail for the UK and all ships in the port were underway despite the best efforts of the German motorcyclists to catch them.

Plymouth looks good, thanks. If they can't go there due to mixing various minor country units, then Liverpool or Hull or Edinburgh.

Okay, to save trying to save the game in a place it will probably fall over I have moved the Danes to Plymouth. They are limited as to where they can go and this iirc is a popular spot to defend convoys in the Bay of Biscay.

EDIT: Well that was handy! [:)]

In response to their failure to take Antwerp, the Germans decide to re-arrange their forces. They begin to transfer the bulk of the armour to the south, leaving the infantry to assault the British defenders of Brussels.

Given their sterling work previously, oberleutnants von Stockhausen and Balck are ordered to reinforce the attack with their Gross Deutschland and 1st Schutzen Regiments respectively. They are part of three armies that are gathered for the assault against the Belgian capital. From north to south, 6th, 12th and 1st Armies take part in the operation.

Air to support is provided by KG’s 1 and 2, with fighter cover on hand provided by JG’s 1 and 2.

Battle of Brussels - 1st February 1940

German Order of Battle

6th Army (von Reichenau)
I Infantry Corps
7th Motorised Corps
1st Artillery Division (150mm)

12th Army (List)
LXXI Infantry Corps
LI Infantry Corps
1st Engineer Division

1st Army (von Kleist)
XLI Panzer Corps
XXXVII Infantry Corps
2nd Artillery Division (105mm)

Meanwhile, in the Mediterranean, the Tante-Jus of the 1st Transport Group are busy flying in reinforcements to Sardinia. The entire stock of these precious cargo planes are required for this operation.

The Italian Alpini Corps, including the elite 3rd Alpine (Julia) Division are flown into Olbia and the division's 8th and 9th Alpine Regiments immediately set about fortifying the mountain approaches to the naval base.

The Ju-52s suffer remarkably few losses in the operation (mostly mechanical issues and a few reported lost over the water) and the bulk of the group returns to La Spezia.

To the surprise of nobody, there will be two attacks announced:

Germany against Brussels

Japan against Kweilin

However, these will have to wait until tomorrow. My stomach churns just at the thought of rolling the dice.........

The excellent co-operation in evidence between the German and Italian forces is a model for evil alliances everywhere. However, this new found bonhomie has not gone down well in all areas of the German war machine.....

Karl Student and his 7th Falschirmjaeger have almost completed their training and will be looking to add their weight to the campaign in the Low Countries and France from next turn. However one of the paratroopers has spotted a flaw in the plan....

Germany vs Antwerp - 3:1 +1. Two bombers add their support. They bring the odds to exactly 4:1. The British have 3 bombers (no fighters) that can fly. The German have one 5 and one 4-quality fighter. Do the RAF wish to fly?

Japan vs Kweilin - 3:1+2 HQ Support from Yamamoto is called upon, but no aircraft fly.

If AllenK is not coming online before attack is played, you can you these instructions:

1) CW sends Fairey as front bomber, followed by Blemheim (2nd) and Harrow (3rd).

2) IF CW can choose, they clear bombers in order: Harrow, Blemheim and Fairey.

3) Harrow will abort, if Germany has fighters but there are no front bombers = Harrow is not going to fight against fighters.

4) All planes land back to where they start.

Ground Support

The quick loss of Liege and fortress Eban Emael within a day – Gamelin assumed this would hold for five – meant that the British XI and XIV Motorised Corps had to speed up their arrival in Belgium, and with little time to dig-in even if they beat the Germans to the punch. That this was achieved was testament in large part to the work of the RAF’s No.14 Group and the 2nd Air Regiment of the Belgian Air Force. The British and Belgian fighters put in an heroic effort to ensure that the German Stukas did not enjoy free reign over the approaches to Brussels, but paid a heavy price in so doing.

Even so, the Stukas, aided by Italian bombers, caused some casualties – particularly to XI Corps. Indeed had Antwerp not held on previously, the position would have been almost hopeless, but the plucky Belgian resistance at Antwerp, in the face of concerted German attack, allowed sufficient time for the Belgian I Corps to be reinforced with a British Corps duly delivered by the Royal Navy.

For this next phase of the campaign, the biggest cause for concern for the Allies was the British southern flank. Thanks to the German 1st Army’s previous occupation of ground southeast of Brussels, the right wing of the BEF was anchored on nothing more than fresh air – at least until the timely arrival of the French XIX Motorised Corps. Only the immaculate command and manoeuvring of his 3rd Division by General Montgomery allowed the British to hold this precarious position. 7th Guards Brigade was instrumental in beating off the initial probing by the infantry of LXXI Corps.

With the skies temporarily clear of Allied fighters (the Armee de l’air having pulled back toward the Somme) Luftwaffe bombers from KG1 and 2 were called in to soften up the British infantry. However the RAF, which hadn’t even had a chance to bring over the Advanced Air Striking Force from the UK, bravely deployed these units anyway. Flying from bases in the southeast of England, the crews were tired before getting to Belgium, whereupon they had to deal with the Luftwaffe….

However, the RAF put in a mightily impressive performance, reducing the German fighter strength by 25% and getting some bombers through to harass the enemy attack. The AASF lost a Blenheim, but this was a resounding victory for the RAF.

Two goes at +4/-4 and I clear one bomber and abort a second. Then on a +2/-2 I lose a fighter and a pilot against one bomber.....

We temporarily leave the ETO and head for China, where Yamamoto is trying to provide some HQ support to the Army Group investing Kweilin.

HQ Support fails with a throw of 9.

This leaves the scores on the doors as follows (with a fractional odds throw for the Germans to come):
