Turn 127: June 30, 1944

In the east Germany loses two corps shattered.
In the west Germany loses one corps shattered and two air units overrun.
In Libya, Italy loses a small corps and the Allies take Tripoli.

We counter-attack in the west, shattering the 2nd US armor, a US mech corp and destroying two US paratroopers.
The 16th Panzer retakes Amsterdam, but is only at two-thirds strength. Can it hold?

Either way this is really good news.

Things aren't going nearly as well in the east, where we eliminate a paratrooper and plug
the weak points in our lines as best we can.

The Axis evacuates all of North Africa. German manpower is at 54%.

Sveint is going to collapse somewhere...I think?

Those are a huge amount of Axis/Allied Builds, kind of entertaining to see. I don't know what level of win loss will come but I suppose regardless what an entertaining fight.

When units are at this tech the game dynamic changes some as the Axis Minors make up for the lack of German Manpower. The Russians look as if they bled early a lot. Though regardless nothing stops that juggernaut at this point forever. But the clock?

Nice looking game!

It's too early to call, I have a feeling an Allied victory sometime in early 1945.

I thought this would be a runaway axis win with England conquered and the forces arrayed for Barbarossa.

then again, i've never even played a game into 1942 vs the AI, never mind vs a human.

On points Sveint is surely well in the lead and he can win on points if he avoids getting knocked out. But the allies do have a good chance of doing just that.

A 42 Barbarossa is always problematic. Sure, he savaged the British and certainly got a ton of VPs from them plus Iberia and the Med. But if you leave the Red Army alone for an extra year it is going to be a beast down the line.

I think landing in the Netherlands was possibly an error for the Western allies. It's too easy to defend. The flipsside of that is if they don't do this the Germans can abandon most of France, retreat in good order towards Italy and Germany, and form a very tough line. And if they can hold on to those big ports in the Low Countries, the allies are going to have serious logistical problems. I've done this myself as the Axis.

The Allies sue for an immediate ceasefire! We have avoided Der Untergang!

With the Axis in Amsterdam is the allied invasion cut off from supply?

Yes, all out of supply.

Well that was a big shift. Two posts ago "I have a feeling an Allied victory sometime in early 1945." Then, the allies sue for peace. Did you find compromising pictures of Roosevelt, Stalin, and Churchill? :)

In retrospect

It was really fun to plan and execute a 1941 SeaLion. Is it the best idea ever? Probably not.
But the faints, pretend-Barbarossa and then rapid invasion was highly entertaining.

What I did wrong - garrison of the UK. I really needed a strong corps in each harbor, Ireland included.
And I should have taken Scapa Flow, no matter the cost.

What went right? I mostly managed my German manpower well. This is crucial to be successful.

As for SillyFlower, well it's hard to tell from the other side of the hill, but I do think he gave up
a bit early. But mostly - and perhaps I am wrong here - he had so so many air units, did he build too many?
Perhaps more tanks would have served him better?

I don't have the VP numbers, but the Axis were way ahead. The Allies would need to conquer Germany and Italy before the deadline.

Gotta wonder how far the Soviets could have pushed into Germany by Aug1945 had not the Anglo-American cabal not made a cowardly good for business separate peace.

I think the UK/USA needed to wait for the Russians to grind down more of the Germans. Perhaps sillyflower felt that doing that was impossible due to the strength of the Axis in time to win as you get a feel for it.

I see a lot of Air and in previous versions they did far more damage. If half of those were armor(or more) in the west I would be much happier. Though the game was pretty long and good. VPs do allow for this longer game if you choose it...

The reason for stopping (as posted on my AAR) was the inability to mount another D-Day successfully in '44. Looking now at the defences in France before I went for Holland, I think that any invasion there would have been swamped even more quickly because just taking a couple of 2 level ports is a recipe for disaster. Having large armies from both Yugo and Spain made a huge difference because there were none of the usual gaps anywhere. The Russians couldn't do it all on their own, especially as Germans could have shifted east again. The game would have just stalemated where things were at that point.

Sveint played the better game, and deserved his win.
