In a daylight surface attack, IJN submarine No. 38 struck the American oiler Ajax southeast of Midway Island. Several torpedo and deck gun hits were confirmed, and the enemy vessel should sink shortly.

The Battle of Brunei begins with a victory for the Royal Navy, which chose this place to reveal the fact that 5 modern battlecruisers are now part of their Southeast Asia order of battle.

My four elderly dreadnoughts were, quite frankly, overmatched, and even though a few hits were landed, no significant damage seems to have been caused on the big enemy ships. In exchange, the IJN battleship Okinoshima was sunk, and although the battleship Hizen remains afloat, she is almost certain to sink tomorrow, after the tender ministrations of the enemy battlecruisers Tiger and Lion.

In return, we accounted for two British and two US destroyers, the latter part of a cruiser-destroyer group supporting the British battlecruisers.

The fight for Brunei is not over, but it just got very interesting.

The Battle of Brunei continues. Expecting to find their opposite numbers in the Royal Navy waiting for them, our battlecruiser squadron steamed into battle last night, only to find a group of four British battleships instead. Battle ensued, and was predictably fierce.

The battlecruiser Hiei fell victim to the heavy guns of HMS's Marlborough and Benbow, but not before our ships had grievously damaged these two ships, plus HMS Iron Duke. The fourth enemy battleship, Empress of India, escaped serious damage. In addition, the destroyer Kiri fell victim to enemy fire.

Subsequently, the enemy attempted to disrupt the landing of our Army troops at Brunei, but our destroyers Yamakaze and Hamakaze heroically sacrificed themselves in order that our now-mostly empty transports could escape.

Just when it seemed that none of our enemy's heavy ships would sink, Imperial submarine No. 19 drew a bead on the Iron Duke, and with a single torpedo hit sent her to the bottom.

Image

In other news, the American oiler Ajax, torpedoed and shelled southeast of Midway, sank today.

Even though I had to accept the trade of one battlecruiser for one battleship, and even though my forces were compelled to retire from the field, I'll still score this day as a win for me, for one single reason: the amphibious landing at Brunei was largely complete by the time the enemy reached my transports.

We shall see what happens next, but it should be interesting.

With no trouble at all, the Imperial Army's 9th Infantry Division overran the British defences in and around Brunei today, and took control of over 60,000 tons of supplies and fuel.

The British ships appear to have pulled back for the moment, although the persistently annoying Argus has been sighted at Miri, to the west.

Elsewhere, more troops began coming ashore at Jesselton, further to the east.

More ships sank today, as the battleship Hizen, grievously damaged in the first night of action at Brunei went down 120 miles northeast of Jesselton. Additionally, the freighter Atutasan Maru, the only transport seriously damaged in the unsuccessful enemy attack on the transport fleet, sank near Jesselton.

Elsewhere, the British cruiser Carysfort was torpedoed by one of our submarines, as she was approaching Singapore after returning from Brunei.

On land, troops of the 8th Division took control of Jesselton whilst others landed at Sandakan. The aim of securing a lodgment of the northeast half of Borneo is all but complete.

The sixth month of the war begins, as an Imperial submarine torpedoes the Royal Navy battlecruiser Tiger at Singapore. Unfortunately, once again, the 45cm torpedo wasn't enough to sink even the previously damaged enemy ship.

The included screenshot shows the score as of 11/1.

Two stragglers from the Battle of Brunei sank today. On our side, the destroyer Hatsuyuki foundered off Taytay, whilst the British destroyer Seymour was reported sunk east of Singapore.

At Singapore herself, submarine No. 41 reported a very heavy RN depth charge attack, and that she was retiring with some damage.

(PS: that boat took almost 70 floatation damage[X(], and isn't very likely to make it to friendly port. How's that for not hitting anything, Bill?[:D]).

This turn was a virtual carbon copy of yesterday's. Two more straggling destroyers, the Yugure and the Grenville, sank at either end of the South China Sea, and another IJN submarine was depth charged very heavily at Singapore and forced to retire, though not before torpedoing the American destroyer Hulbert.
