I've been lurking around these forums for years now - about time I posted something.

Go back to your original posts at the start of this epic, Lowpe. One of the reasons you get so many views for this AAR is your erudite, thoughtful use of pictures and general all round skill. The "days" of the turns might look dark today and in the future, for your little pixels, but your entertaining wit and style has kept many a player waiting for updates i'm sure. I know I have :)

I'd dread to be your opponent in a Scen 2 game, I know that much, let alone what you inherited here and have managed to do to this point. Keep smiling.

Thanks.

I really should have stuck to my original plan. Oh well, we shall see what I can salvage...

Send your opponent a 'Tokyo Rose' email announcing a great Imperial victory!

Why not?

Done...excellent idea. Outplayed, and trashed I was.

Back to plan A...[:D]

I have most of the fleet heading towards Truk. Some damaged light carriers are heading for Saipan to disband, along with some surface ships in a different taskforce under a land based air cap.

Maybe I can get away with something.[:)]

KB simply has to strike with surprise...my bad for deviating from my original plan. I could kick myself.

We shall see what happens...maybe some of my surface ships will close with his carriers and correct the day. Stranger things have been known to happen.[;)]

More updates with tomorrow's turn -- when I feel a little less sick at heart. There was some good news...reinforcements to the Bonins are safe, another IJA hvy division is moving into Iwo Jima. Troops headed to Yap and Ulithi...hopefully they will make it, not spotted, and no shipping that I can see at Perth.

Wow, that sucks. [:(]

So your Alpha strike took off while he was covered in thunderstorms while his strikes didn´t take off until the weather cleared?

Look at it this way. If you tried nothing he takes the Marianas easily and bombs you to smithereens in 44. If you do something you have a chance to inflict damage and may have slowed him here even though the KB strike didn't work out.

You can't do anything about the weather. We've all experienced this. Don't kick yourself for trying something here, as you had to at some point and the consensus is that this was a good time. It was. I think you were just not committed from the beginning and went in too lit up, as you say. DL makes a huge difference in these battles. Night search can even illuminate and keep some DL on TFs that are hidden by weather during the day search period.

Anyway, it is sickening to lose those CVs. Been there. You'll fight it off and still give him some licks back!

No turn this morning, which is a shame as I wanted to see what could escape.

Unlucky. However the Allies owning the Marianas isn't too critical until April 44 when the B29s start to arrive, and even then they will be limited to night ops. However I would beef up the defences of the Bonin Is and Philippines if I were you.....

Yep, working on it. In a lot of ways the Bonins are more heavily protected now than the Tinian or Rota was. Definitely Rota. Also working on Daito, Naha and company, and trying to get something to Luzon.

You gave me the best advice on the the cap flying over CVs, and I didn't take it fully enough.[:-] Set those CAP percentages very high when fights are likely.

I got a very nice email from the Allies...he is trying to take an hour's leave at work to do the turn or at least watch it fully. To say he is excited is an understatement. And, after all that is what this game is all about.[:)]

I beg to disagree a bit here. [:)]

The Marianas isn´t only important because its within B29 reach of the HI. But its in fact the last stop before the PIs. Its only November 43. With Allied bases in the Marianas its not impossible we will see a full Allied invasion in the PIs as early as Feb/Mar 44. That is very, very bad news for Japan.

Not to mention it flanks the entire SWPAC/DEI area which would have been very useful to delay the Allies. As I said before the Marianas isn´t crucial for the Allies but I think its crucial for the Japanese not to have the Allies there too early.

I hear you, but there is one big stretch of water inbetween them and the PI is one giant unsinkable a/c carrier......

Lots of naval fights around the Marianas, IJN really holds their own against several aggressive PT boat TFs, sinking a dozen or so.

A small light cruiser destroyer squadron goes up against the big boys, 1 destroyer lost, and unfortunately no torpedo hits but they did launch them. Scary moment I am sure for the Allies.

Daytime came and the Allied air force cleaned up again for the paltry loss of 175 Allied carrier planes.

Looks like I got 4 fleet carriers away...we will see what tomorrow brings.

Well, on the bright side the Marianas has been a very big learning experience for me.[:D]

Iwo Jima: They should get a full heavy division tomorrow...bringing their AV to close to 800, 600 at HaHa, and 400 at ChiChi. HaHa will get a base force in about 1 week giving all three CD units of some type with Iwo having 2.

Almost all those troops were planned to go to the Marianas...what a difference the Nov 42 IJA reinforcements make and they are only just starting.

There is a huge AA reinforcement in April of 44. Looks like the HI will need them all!

Still holding on the Tuang Gyi road, but the Allies look to be moving another division in. I will probably evacuate back as the Uttaradit forces are looking very strong. No movement at Moulmein, but it is hard to tell if he is flanking or not despite lots of recon.

No ships at Perth...

Trying to escape from the Marianas debacle...still.

Allies probed with two different destroyer task forces...some odds and ends attacked them, but one full sentai of Lilly divebombers hit them from 9 hexes with a nice Oscar escort...twice. One is listed as sunk, and the Lillies seem to be doing better versus Allied flak (1 lost to ops only). The 100 kilo sap seems to really knock out equipment...which is nice.

Sank a tanker off Port Blair with subs...shelled Cap Nicobar for good effect. Looks like the Allies have run out of fuel and supplies as they are pushing both into Port Blair.

Still holding on in the Tuang Gyi/Moulmein area.

Cap Trap over Bangkok with Tonies and Oscars shreds 20 of the hated Assault bombers at treetop levels. God, I hate those planes. Their target was a 5 ship convoy running supplies into Bangkok. He will probably sweep there with Jugs tomorrow, so I am sweeping Lashio with Georges to offset. Two can play that game!

700 AV at Iwo Jima...wish I would have had that at Tinian. One of the division is elite, with IJA 43 squads.

Myojo advances to December.

This plane should only cost half the HI since is was made mostly of wood.[:D]

I thought the landing gear jettisoned after takeoff...since it was to be a one way trip.

Japan only made 2...I am going to make hundreds. Yeah, the Judy is better, but not as intriguing!

Jeesh, it was funny but you don't have to keep repeating the picture.[:D] If you saw what they ask for this model!

The Lilly dive bomber in action, ok it was an 8 hex raid.
