I was not aware of the devs statement about 8 manpower or more making for greater effects on industry. And I have not had much experience with strategic bombing anyway - played the Downfall scenario a long time ago when I knew nothing about the IJ economy and what it required. Perhaps some of the other players have noticed the relationship between manpower numbers and damage from firestorms ...

I'm working on the turn now with the Soviets Active. The navy hasn't appeared but I can give orders to all land and air units. Any suggestions?

Soviet subs are pretty effective. Flood the Sea of Japan.
Their aircraft are not great, but the IL-2 and IL-4s are good ground attack aircraft. Put them to good use. I hope you have been training the Soviet squadrons from day 1.
Your Soviet armour should be pretty effective against IJA tanks and troops. Drive for Korea and take it all - no garrisons required.
Soviet navy should have at least one heavy cruiser. Bombard where you can provide air cover. xAKs should go to Prince Rupert for supplies unless you need to convert some to xAPs for amphib ops. Soviet troops are generally unrestricted.

Training squadrons all along - Check!

But I'm looking at what seems like a shortage of base forces. Keeping the birds in the air will be tight. Maybe more will arrive before too long.

I have no recon yet, so take this with an entire salt mine.

I've ordered more than 6,000 AV at Tamsag to drive for Chinchow, the last road junction before the coast, with the aim of slicing the defense away from China.

From the east, say Vladivostok on north, I'm looking at just a wall of general mayhem moving west.

Soviet air support is always less than the aircraft available - but their aircraft get plane fatigue very quickly even with little opposition so you need to put a % to rest mode during ops. I look at the plane fatigue in double digits and set that % to rest each turn. The rest of them carry on with the orders. That way the Air Support available balances itself with the number of aircraft it can keep in the air, and pilot fatigue is dealt with as well. Keep in mind that Soviet aircraft lacked hydraulic assist so their pilots had to physically use muscle to move their controls. Their pilots fatigue as fast as their aircraft do!

You forgot to mention that clearing Singers gives you a whole lot of bombardment ships and AEs/AKEs to play with. Where are you likely to target next for bombardment from the sea?

• Imperial fighter sweeps over and around Vladivostok were brutal. Still, we got some of them and some bombers too. Out fighters are pulling down to 5,000 feet. Flak coverage of Vladivostok is massive and the bombers were treated even worse from the ground than by our fighters.

• The naval fortress at Vladivostok has a large array of cruiser-sized and above guns. Hopefully the IJN battleships will not even try to bombard.

• Subs without mines are bring sent to sea to hunt and patrol against the enemy fleet.

• Subs with mines are being sent to mine Shikuka and Fusan.

• All subs are being home ported to Vladivostok where they should be able to get mines and run the inventory dry.

• Two destroyers from Nikolaevsk and one destroyer from Magadan are sailing to raid shipping at/near Shikuka. Fuel is a serious limiting factor for these ships.

• Surface ships at Vladivostok will remain there for the moment. All merchants, etc. will remain where they are now.

• Enemy carrier CAP savaged naval search out of Olga, which will stand down for the moment. Other naval search was too short-ranged to enter the danger zone.

• Armor has crossed the border SW of Tamsag.

• Other forces in Mongolia are on the move.

• Forces in the Khabarovsk/Bikin/Imam area will take a month of Sundays to cross the river through the swamp.

Ships can enter Russian ports and get repairs there, but no fuel or ammo. But the Russians will accept donations of fuel and supply!

I don't think allied soldiers can enter hexes with the Soviet country code but if the Russians capture territory outside their home country, allies can co-exist there. I think Aircraft are handled the same as soldiers.

That should sort itself out soon. Note that the Soviet on-map refinery is upriver from Nikolaevsk (Komsomolsk? - also has a repair shipyard) and that there is oil at the northern tip of Sakhalin (Okha - it doesn't look like it but the port is on the east side of the island). Starts at 10 or so and can be repaired to 80 oil wells. Shikuka also has about 30 oil points.
I get some of those small TKs and operate CS convoys to the refinery port, but Russia always seems to get enough fuel and supply from off-map if you can keep the rail lines open.

Didn't even think about fuel! That Oil resource is fully repaired. Now to sneak loaded tankers to the mainland...

• Our infantry and supporting arms units have crossed thee border out of Tamsag, but the over stacking is so great that 7 of the infantry divisions are slowing their movement to spread out the column and prevent starvation. Ships can enter Russian ports and get repairs there, but no fuel or ammo. But the Russians will accept donations of fuel and supply!

I don't think allied soldiers can enter hexes with the Soviet country code but if the Russians capture territory outside their home country, allies can co-exist there. I think Aircraft are handled the same as soldiers.
Too bad I can't operate P-47's from Vladivostok!

Get the Russians to capture Rashin, and fly from there!
