A straight port of ASL with a serviceable AI would be the be all and end all.

I'd like the same for "War and Peace".

Speaking of setting up maps and counters... some sick (very sick) side of me wants to drag out the old GDW Europa maps and set them up.... just to show the kids that dad is/was cool (oops, I meant "a dork") at one time.

My wife would leave me...

Well, somethings are best shared with others with the same illness... :)

Happily when we bought our house, the missus let me have a game room beside the basement man-cave. the bad thing is that I can only set up one gdw game at a time in it....

I know it's silly, but I miss Aces of the Deep and Transport Tycoon Delux.

One thing that I thought was overlooked years ago was the Shadowrun RPG that was on the Sega Genesis.  I'm not a big console man, but I spent a huge amount of time playing that game, it was so fun.  Need another Shadowrun rpg on the pc with similar gameplay setup.

One I'd like to see is Battles of Napoleon, I think it was SSI. I had it on C64, but would love to see it updated.

Sigh.. I used to play SFB every other night, my main grouch about the game was the bookeeping which made fleet battles a chore IMHO. I have all my SFB stuff in the loft, including the Cadet Training manual. A computer version that takes out all the tedious bookeeping would be great. I belive there is a newer bersion of SFB that cuts down the bookeeping and may give it a look later in the year.

Cheers

I played endless hours of Starfleet Battles but couldn't tolerate much of Federation and Empire. Sold it on ebay before our move over to the UK. Sold my SFB lot too for a pretty penny (nearly every Commanders Log, Nexus Mag, Rulesets, etc...)
I still have my SFB stuff. man, that brings back memories!

I'd like to see SPI's 70's-era Fast Carriers made into a PC game. It integrated the strategic, operational and tactical layers of carrier combat into one game. Owing to that, it had about as elaborate a turn structure as anything that you can imagine. And as Al Nofi once remarked, it was that same structural complexity that rendered its title wholly inappropriate! HOWEVER, it would be quite doable on a computer, IF someone had 100K for art and programming. I know it'll never happen. Then again, I didn't think that there'd ever be a television show called Baa Baa Black Sheep with all those lovely Corsairs flying about, either.

Second to that. CoG EE has an oustanding built-in tactical battle, yet BoN was even better. (with more detailed order of battle, chain of command etc.).

I remember a tactical isometric turn-based ww2 game where you choose individual soldiers and get in action. It was like an x-com in WW2 scenery, and one bullet was mostly enough for KIA. Should be published around 1998 or so.

I cannot remember its name but I remember one distinct characteristic of the game: the soldiers were receiving letters from their relatives, which, though not having a real effect in game mechanics, was forming a bound between the player and those soldiers.

I would really like to see a renewed version of that game, or something similar to it.

I'm guessing you are thinking of either Soldiers at War or Silent Storm. Both games fit that description and were very similar. Silent Storm is still installed on my PC now and I play every now and then. Soldiers at War was great fun, but doesn't like XP very much.

Silent Storm is much more recent, though.

Speaking of which... a remake of X-COM: UFO Defense and/or Jagged Alliance, using the Silent Storm engine for tactical battles - that would be a treat!

Ah, I didn't spot the year dogancan mentioned. But, there was nothing in Soldiers at War about soldiers recieving letters, so maybe I'm wrong with that one too. I can't remember any other isometric WWII games from the late 90's though.

The Silent Storm engine is quite nice and I agree that a Jagged Alliance game with it would look great.

Thanks Jim_H it was Soldiers at War! [&o] I was trying to remember the name for hours. The "letters"
thing was in that game, i think.

anyway, I think a remake of Soldiers at War will definitely worth a try.
