I remeber those cheesy graphics sequences you used to get in say Panzer General or the FMV boxes that would appear in Harpoon 3 when a plane launched or got shot down, that stuff just puts me in the mood and grounds me back into the action.
Adding the Estab data view for equipment in game, including the relevant features of the equipment and a drawing or a photograph of it, will increase the immersion noticeably and will make the game much more accessible for those that don't have a so deep knowledge in WWII equipment, expanding the player base of the game significantly.
I agree with that, and one way of adding inmersion could be including brief historic footage of the units, perhaps 2 or 3 choosen randomly, so when a artillery unit is clicked, you will see
that unit shooting in a couple of different situations and angles and when a Inf unit is being hammered by art you'll see footage of a real WWII Inf unit under art barrage if you click on it. Same if a Inf or tank unit is walking on or fighting in a road, cross country or a city. The screen doesn't have to be very big. There's plenty of all kind of WWII footage to choose from.
Having said that I would like to have the option to turn this off if it's using too much CPU juice or if it's distracting me.

Panther Games must do North Africa.
The system is tailor-made for the ebb and flow of war in the desert. The campaign there included myriad nationalities, all of which are potential customers, unlike the Eastern Front, with them dirty old NAZEES and COMMIES. Ugh, rather eat dirt than play another game with SS and NKVD hoodlums under my command! And Panther owes it to its customers to properly portray the critical role of the Aussie and Kiwi in WW2, Operation Crusader perhaps, with Brevity and Battleaxe thrown in as tutorials.

This probably wouldn't be do-able, but how about adding a notes page to the estab data view in the game? I was just reading about the German 3.7 pak AT gun on the wiki.. it says;
'The PaK 36, being a small-calibre weapon, was outdated by the May 1940 Western Campaign, and crews found them all but useless against heavy allied tanks like the British Mk.II Matilda'
It would be cool to be able to add this kind of thing in a notes page. I.e, if while playing you see a certain gun not doing very well in certain situations you could add this to notes, and as you went along maybe build up a nice library of info on the various items.
The difficulty would be the info would need to be saved to the unit estabs so it would show up from one scenario to another, which might make it unworkable.. Anyway, just a thought.

Good point, well made. The people in the desert were all such jolly good chaps. [;)]
Don't forget the Poles and South Africans and the French and, if I remember correctly, even Greeks ... and Czechs ... and Jews ... Even one or two Brits (in their rightfull place, in command. [:'(] )

Immersion is really an individual taste. A high degree of historical accuracy is a must for me.
I really like the scale of this game as it simulates the operational actions of a brigade/division/corps commander and I actually want more limited info on my units as a real commander would have. Too many wargamers are fixated by the idea of Total Control, which I think is not wargaming but chess.
Scaling down this game to Squad level would hardly give longer scenarios and larger maps, and would probably mean changing the game engine totally.
Most historical actions in WW2 did not take place more than a few days unless you want to simulate a whole campaign. A 60-day scenario in COTA would then have to include a map of all Greece to make it historical. If you continue to expand scenarios in regard to what happens in the 'valley on your left flank', would you not eventually end up with another global 'World at War' game?
A possible campaign-like feature could be that the units of your brigade/division/corps 'carry over' in some form into the next scenario and that could give you a more 'personal' feel for your units and make your actions from preceding scenarios count more. Another feature like 'free' setup would also be a great addition, especially in Multiplayer.

I just recently got COTA, I really enjoy it.
Can't wait for the new Bulge game.

I hope they don't wait too long, I'm moving pretty slow. But I'm having tons of fun. This really is a great game.
