I'd love to see a COTA like system on a strategical scale.

As I've mentioned in the past, I feel the current engine would marry very nicely to the Russo-Finnish War.

My vote goes for WWI - this era has been totally underrepresented in war games generally and I think the CoTA/HTTR engine would be perfect....... Change the scale as well and I think it would be great at representing the trench warfare of '15-'18

I'd take France 1940 and Kharkov (The 3 battles).

I agree with Joe's comment about 1 game with added mixed scenarios/campaigns instread of 1 game with only 1 campaign.  THat IMHO was a major shortcoming of the PZ Campaigns series.  You were getting the same game at full cost (and installation) or each new campaign but it became a PITA when you had to start applying updates for each game, which came out with each new "campaign" instead of just updating 1 game. I'd much rather pay for add-on campaign modules.

Desert Fox and France 40 (not because I am a Rommel nut but) because they are less modelled, and I think early war can be more fun (all those French tanks, and R R armoured care MkVI light tanks etc. Would be interesting to compare a properly implemented allied lack of armounr coordination etc. with later on, or Germans.

1. France 40
2. Barbarossa 41

Face it, the early blitzkrieg years are where the innovative new tactics were tried and honed.  They are textbook cases.

[]... the early blitzkrieg years are where the innovative new tactics were tried and honed. They are textbook cases.

... well successful transcriptions (which were based on improvisations and bold moves made by commanders in the field, like Rommel and others, who scared their superiors) of ambitious plans. Carrying out blitz tactics against the staggered/mixed lines of PaK/inf/PaK/inf - defenses of the Russians, or against Monty's defensive perimeters in North Africa later on, stopped the German show. So yes, maybe early stages are more interesting.
  • 1. France 1940 to Dunkirk including a) the move to the South (of Luxembourg) to crush the French defensive line from 3 sides and b) the para drops in the Netherlands.

Also, it would somewhat qualify to be a scenario mix, suggested by some ppl.
  • 2. North Africa OR Barbarossa to Moscow.

Can't decide here, since the African landscape may be somewhat boring visually, but then you've got massive mine fields, massive forts (morale/stubbornness values have to be tinkered with again? -> Malta), rough terrain inland (mountain passes, Wadis - rocky deserts) may be used for some bold flanking moves or stubborn defenses.
  • 3. Sorry, had to add this: WWI (Tannenberg 1914)

Finnish-Russo war rather features some attrition warfare for the most part, and the Russians did not perform well, except for when Marshal Timoschenko took over (right before the end of the conflict). Looking at the Russians superiority regarding the amount of troops/availability of heavy weapons, air assets, and at the finnish tactical predominance, it's not interesting enough, especially if keeping in mind that most of the northern flank was defended by Finnish civil guards. The first Russian para drops (1940) were a fiasco too.

The 2nd Finnish-Russo war (where they reached Leningrad) is somewhat more interesting. But: cover this theater, and you have another niche-niche game with low sales.

I think it was a bad idea to list Korea and Vietnam in a single option. Both are too big to be squeezed into a single game. I like the idea of Korea, and another game for Vietnam (I also agree that it should have a more tactical scale, as someone already said).

But since you did include them in a single option, technically I'm allowed another choice, in which case I'd choose WWII Pacific, just because sometimes I get tired of the ETO. A game centered around the Philippines (in 41-42 and 44-45) or Guadalcanal would do quite well.
