Well, the good news is that I'm seeing results that look much more like the 'Old" AI settings when I run the same tests with the latest build. I must have fixed something between the last release and this one<g>. With it on, I saw the paracutist drop, and the AI advance. Thanks Silvanski, I'm afraid that you'll have to wait to see how the new AI does.

Ralph
Are you keeping the 'old' AI in there (via switch), just in case, so that people won't have to wait till the next patch cycle to play PO games again, if it isn't fixed?
Not that I don't think you've got it fixed, oh great Ralph. :D

Absolutely. It's also good for me to be able to test the old and new AIs to see if it actually IS better, not that I've had a great idea what made it worse or anything like that...

Mainly I'm keeping it because the ships may be handled differently, there may be a couple of scenarios out there that play worse with the new AI because of the way that they're handled differently..

Thanks for looking into it Ralph. Meanwhile I'll keep it on the Old/Y setting and check again how it handles once the new patch is released.
Oh yeah, I'm sure you've fixed the Y/N setting bug [;)]

Silvanski,
As one of the people designing for the AI, you might appreciate the following preview of a debug feature I'm hoping to get into the next patch...

The status like has a summary of the current AI status.

The red lines are where the formation units should move to first, the Blue lines are objectives for the formaition.

Superformitastic tool Ralph!!! That would make fine tuning the PO a lot easier. You know I now use a huge notepad with colored markers ... maybe I can sell those sketches as abstract art afterwards LOL

BTW I seem to notice that the fonts now have dark contours. Did you make changes to the experimental "Opart 3 fonts.ini" and will it be included in the next patch?

Yeah, it would be pretty neat if it showed up when you wre placing objectives too, wouldn't it? [X(]

Yeah those lines from one objective to another also give a good idea what kind of coverage the formations -more or less- will take of the battlefield. The objectives' overview on the minimap can get cluttered.

Is there no way the main map can be zoomed out in the editor? That might also be helpful for PO track setting in large map designs

Here is a 'work in progress.' Hopefully it will make it into the next release. Right now, the I key toggles it between one and many tracks just like the 'Range Rings.'

You may recognize this scenario.[&:]

I haven't verified it, but this screen should be fuly functional using the current methods, although you may want to toggle back to one objective path only to edit.[X(]

I'm trying to provide the tools so that designers can produce a workable AI. I have no idea how you guys have the patience with the current tools.[&o][&o][&o]

I sure know this one Ralph.[;)] ...and the tracks are similar to the sketch on my notepad.
A blessing in the works! Thanks!

(Ah yeah, we somehow manage to produce the patience required to get a workable PO[:D])

There are some things I need to clean up still, like the labels. If that is a new zoom-out level, of course.[:D]

Maybe it is, maybe it isn't, but the text sure is the same size so it's not a screenie you shrunk [;)]
