Conference at Noumea

Noumea...
HQ SoPac, Adm Carpender Commanding...
A conference has been called...
Admiral Marky: Well, what is the situation?
Adm Carpender: Sir, we have secured Lizzy Field, at least for now. We have Spruance off shore, Turner heading back with reinforcements and fuel, and Halsey heading back NW to rejoin and take command of our main carrier force. We also have several convoys heading for Guadalcanal, and the Hornet is due to arrive tomorrow with escorts.
Adm Marky: Excellent. What about Rabaul and intel of enemy positions and movements?
Adm Carpender: Well sir, from what weve seen the Japs appear to be keeping quiet mostly after the last slew of engagements in The Slot, but we do see alot of naval activity around Rabaul, and what appears to be barge traffic around the Shortlands. As for Rabauls airfield, its a mess sir, and from what weve seen theres virtually no air activity in or around Rabaul, or so it seems. In addition the Jap subs seem to have all but disappeared.
Adm Marky: Hmmm.....
Adm Carpender: What are you thinking sir?
Adm Marky: Im thinking that the Japs are stirring. We got 4 Jap flattops at Midway, 4 of the ones that hit us at Pearl, but we know theres at least 2 more Pearl carriers afloat. I think its safe to assume that theyll head here, if theyre not here already, wouldnt you agree?
Adm Carpender: Yes sir, i think thats a safe assumption.
Adm Marky: Of course it all depends on what priority the japs are gonna place on Guadalcanal. I think theyre gathering strength for a major push. Have we sighted any carriers or major warships yet?
Adm Carpender: no sir, nothing bigger than a cruiser.
Adm Marky: Theyre stirring, and when theyre ready to come at us, god help us all...

And you found a good use for the wimpy P-400's. Some excellent play from the Allied side in this AAR -- Yamamoto has his work cut out for him.
