1960.  The Year of the Possum.

When I saw "CRT" in the first post, I immediately thought "cathode ray tube."  But then I have always had trouble with tests like these.  Two examples:  (1)  In 1979, I was a freshman at the University of Georgia, where there is no shortage of good looking young women.  One approached me at a college bus stop and asked me if I knew where she could buy a "plant."  I thought for a moment and told her, "I think Sears sells plants."  (2)  In the late '80s, a co-worker said she was buying a friend a CD for Christmas.  Thinking that was an odd choice, I asked innocently, "You're buying your friend a Certificate of Deposit?"

The biggest surprise on this test has to be Terminus.  The man is only in his 30s?!  I had formed a mental image that he was a retired professor of American Antiquities at the University of Copenhagen; enjoyed pipe smoking; and secretyly liked GenlHoepner's avatar.[X(]

PS:  My first Avalon Hill games (circa 1976) were Blitzkrieg followed by D-Day and Midway.

Another from 1966 here.  The year of the Fire Horse, which is supposed to be bad luck in Chinese Astrology, at least for parents.  Fire Hosres are supposed to be strong willed. 

My father gave me AH's Luftwaffe for Christmas in 1971.  I was a bit young to understand the game back then.  It sat on the shelf for a few years until I finally figured it out.  Though I played a kind of simplified version of the rules for a while.  About the time I started high school I discovered other AH titles and I was lost forever.  I had one friend who was as into them as I was and we played quite a bit.

I arrived early in 1947, as soon as the USS English (DD696) made her Magic Carpet ride into San Franscisco from the Pacific campaigns, and as soon as my father could find something to plow into other than a potato field in Idaho.

Yes, I knew.

Started out on the Avalon Hill series, Tactics II, Africa Corps, Anzio, Guadacanal, etc., until SPI arrived on the scene. Then my favorite rapidly became the combined War in the East/War in the West. I used a spare bedroom and an enlarged ping-pong table to put it on. Probably had that in constant use for close to 10 years.

Upon further reflection, it was only in use for 6-7 years.

Someone claimed to have played CNA somewhere, once, or at least some turns of it, didn't they? What CNA needed was computerisation of the detail tracking - and then it would be like playing........ WitP!

A friend and I started that darn game. We played 1 turn and 2 op stages (2/3 of a turn) before I moved out of town for college. I still like it. Gonna play it someday if I can find someone crazy enough to play.

Cut my teeth on Midway, Luftwaffe and Jutland.  Loved playing Jutland on my bedroom floor, even to this day.
