10 russian fighters were shot down in air to air combat for no loss on my side. That was a nice surprise. And 30-40 other planes were torched on the ground. Soon the only purpose of these raids will be to keep russian engeneers busy with repairing airfield instead building new forts.
After this raid the japanese combat engineers attacked in an attempt to break the first line of soviet fortification. 6500 guns tried to cover their advance, but were totaly toothless. On the other side the soviet artillery proved itself again as the most efficient on the battlefield. 12 Eng Rgts were shot to pieces BEFORE they even managed to launch their attack.. This is going to be looong and bloody siege..
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Japanese max assault: 501 - adjusted assault: 3
Allied max defense: 5292 - adjusted defense: 10541
Japanese assault odds: 0 to 1 (fort level 8)
Japanese ground losses:

Allied ground losses:

As usual, when large stacks of LCU are involved the ground combat model goes crazy and the result is ridiculous. Next time I will have to send the whole army to pointless attack just to have a chance to lower the forts. The result will be, that I will loose 100k troops against maybe 3k enemies.[:(] I know this game was not supposed to model such a huge battles/campaigns, but still it drives me crazy. When I look at the ground combat replay, it seems that attacking unit is passing alongside the whole defensive line allowing every gun to shoot at them (bombard phase) at first and then those, who survived, impale themselves against the defenders lines (attack phase).
I´m pulling those 12 Eng Rgts out of Irkutsk. 60 miles SE of the base I have 10 Army HQ units waiting and these will help to "repair" these decimated units (I have only total of 16 active squads in these units..). I will give them 2-3 weeks, move them back and then charge with the whole army. For the Emperor!!!
Tommorrow russian artillery will hit our lines. 3-5k losses are expected every turn..[:@]
