I'm about to ask a very dumb or insulting question.  My apologies in advance.

Why all the secrets as to a general or tenative release date?  We're all going to buy a copy.
Why all the secrets as to how many scenarios are included and what they are?  There will be more than expected and we will all love it.  We'll then make our own.
Why all the secrets as to how many aircraft/ship types/classes there are?  We'll all be doing hand-springs over what's included.  Then we'll add more of our own.  If I want F5Us (Flying Pancakes) and they are not provided, I'll do it myself.

I understand marketing concepts but...

Maybe it's my low IQ, but why the suspense?

There's been no secrecy about the scenarios included; I think they've been listed six or seven separate places. Same with the stuff (planes/ships/whatever). As for release dates, that's Matrix's exclusive domain. Speaking for myself only, I think they do it that way to avoid having people whine about missed deadlines.

hmmm, maybe its a double edged sword - i THINK i would prefer as a company a load of prospective customers saying 'boo you missed the date - but when will it really come out', to the 'boo whens it coming out you never tell us anything, does it even exist (BTR)?' crowd.

Only because there must be literally 100s/1000s of people waiting for AE all thinking its coming out from between November 2008 - and a random date in the future, and surely as time ticks by without a date, interest slowly, very slowly drops off. I think there was mention of Summer 2008 (which does indeed cover right upto 23:59 31 Dec 2008) but when the western summer was missed (lets admit it in the uk - its gone!!) noone actually complained, just a genuine chorus of expectation, and 'ok, can we have another rough guess, just for a bit of guidance', im sure if they said December 2008, everyone would leave well alone until then, and then all queue up in the shop window again to see if it was there or not - surely honest estimations of hope are more appreciated than what can be perceived (not by me i hasten to add) as general ignorance of our expectations. And if the answer is June 2010, then fine, thats when it is, we can all start our Witp PBEMs again, and wait, happily, because thats a rough idea of how long its going to take. Not just on Matrix i have seen many people saying, 'im waiting for AE, IF/when it ever comes out' - i get the impression there is a lot more affection (not perhaps the right word but bear with me) in the WiF forum where people are advised on a monthly basis whatthe release date should be - slip or not - at least they know.

Just me 2 penneth worth anyway - eagerly waiting AE

It is a double edged sword.

It were are given a date, and then it is missed, it results in many complaints.

WHICH does nobody any good.

If we are not given a date then we are not disappointed.

Yet, then there are many complaints about no commuication.

THESE also do nobody any good, and DO NOT have impact on the speed of the project.

IMO, I prefer no date and to let the team focus on the work. As this has the best chance of bringing this project to completion.

i may have missed them, but i genuinely did not see any complaints as Western Summer 2008 passed us by, i myself shrugged and wondered in that case when the release date might be.

If i missed them, i apologise

BTW, where the hell is the nutmeg state? [:)]

I believe Connecticut is the nutmeg state. I was stationed there in the 80's. There used to be a big submarine base there.

There haven't been many complaints as such, just a generalized low whine. And, all jokes aside, there's no "if" in AE, only a "when". Don't you dare believe otherwise.

I guess from all that I am reading; no one is going to confirm that AE exisits but if it doesn't exisit you can neither confirm it since we don't know if it exists. Can we definitely say it's coming out with absolutely no certainty unless it's not coming out in which case it may come out when it is done unless you don't think the game actually exists. I can't wait until it doesn't get released [8D]

Forgive me, i never meant to imply i thought it wasnt a 'when'!! i like to think of myself as a member of the silent majority - just sat here waiting, and every now and again frothing over with anticipation. By the way i appreciate you agreeing to PM me the release date [;)]

My biggest problem is with posters who take any sort of delay in release or perceived lack of developer response as a personal insult to them. There aren't many of those losers around here, but plenty in other Matrix game subforums.

I agree. This is a patient group of people. I think it's becasue we all know what kind of promise AE has and we all want it to be done right. WITP was the computer game I always wanted. AE is the game I never imagined was possible but want twice as much as the original!

The immaturity and impatience of some gamers came to the fore front about 6 years ago when Matrix announced the release of a new version of SPWAW, and were unable to release on that date because beginning on the date of the announcement, gamers starting commenting on what they would love to see in the new offering..Matrix tried to incorporate a lot of it and that always set the actual release date back..........
IIRC, the original release date was missed by 4 months..
Matrix learned THEIR lesson, but some of those impatient gamers are still with us.

I was so impressed with WiTP it was the game I always wanted. I played PTO and PTOII and wondered when a game on the entire Pacific War would come out for the PC. It took me awile to get used to the game but I loved it even though it has major flaws, but I learned to work around the repair issue and I learned how to deal with KB and even learned to manage land ops but sometimes a small Japanese force would hold out or repel me when it was almost impossible. I got frustrated at first but I learned. I am waiting patiently for AE no matter how long it takes--I will buy it as soon as it's released.
