It's sometimes hard for me to understand that a Nation which builds Yamato, Musashi and Shinano as well as the 46cm guns isn't able to build suitable/enough guns and AA.

The latter was in no small part due to the former.

Simple: The Yamato, Musashi and Shinano were offensive weapons, in keeping with the Bushido spirit that emphasized aggression, with disdain for defense.
AA guns, just like ASW vessels were defensive weapons, not deemed to be important.[8|]

Well, beaching and scrapping the Shinano might consequently have helped to build some extra guns, right? [;)]

Its sometimes hard for me to understand how a nation that cherishes Neutrality and staying out of wars above all else designs the best light AA weapon of a world war. [:D]

But of course, you know the correct answer: It was a company, not the state oder nation, and it's engineers knew the company will earn money if they work good...

Their army used license built models of another nations LMG and their technology did not produce a good, nor sufficient in numbers SMG.
It was so bad, they tried the next best thing, copied the American M1 and did not have the technology to produce them enmasse, (even with captured M1's on hand to work from!!)

Their Garand copy was horrible beyond horrible: poorly made and unsafe to use.

That was when "Made in Japan" meant "Shoddily made"

By the time Shinano was torpedoed and (theoretically) beached, it was far too late to get any use out of the hulk.  They had plenty of scrap steel laying around, but they were nearly out of oil, their factories were being systematically reduced to even more scrap, and their cities burnt to ashes.  More useless big chunks of steel laying around weren't going to help them at all by then.

So ebay is obvious the best use for it [;)]

Didn't the IJA also have a pistol w/ a twitchy safety mechanism that was dangerous to target and user alike?
