I think that's a decent review - it's definitely got a "casual game" style to it and that may not be everyone's cup of tea, though there is plenty of depth and replayability as well and it is a quality game within the sci-fi "space trading" sub genre. I would rate it a bit higher myself, it happened to go over well with us and we felt that it was under-rated and we should help that out by bringing it to our customers.
I will make one note about his review. He complains that the trade screen obscures the map and can't be moved off to the open background area on larger monitors. That has not been my experience with our release. I move the buy/sell screen over to the unused space and it works fine. That's part of why it's hard to really define the resolution on this game, the play area stays the same size, but it definitely scales the background to your native resolution.
Here's a screenshot that shows the trade screen moved over to the side of the map where it's not in the way of the main play area.
I can't seem to move any of the "popups". I am using the original demo, so is that something that has changed? I see your Trade window has the standard windows bar...mine does not.
I was actually going to say that the popups are a pain how they are laid it. It seems indistinguishable from the rest of the game area. I took out a loan and paid it back immediately!
Come to think of it, I don't think that worked right. I mean, I took out a loan for 25,000 and when I accidentally seemd to pay it back I was down to 14,000 from an original base of 39,000!
I'll test that...I'm not sure what happened there.

It must have changed, I believe the demo you are using is for an older version of the game. Our updated demo should be out next week.

The difference I saw from normal to veteran mode in the demo is the ai will hit more often and you will miss it more often but still not enough to lose battles just closer ones as where I might have 1/2 my armor left after a battle in normal mode I might have 1/4th to 1/8th left in veteran mode.
Well, let´s see if I can come up with a special "killroyishere" mode in the next update. [:D]

My question is who do you have beta testings these games 12 year olds? See I can see a 12 year old getting all excited that he blew a spaceship out of the universe with ease. I can see a 12 year old probably not minding the repetiveness of the combats as most that age don't want things too complicated as they like 1'zes and 2'zes button mashing like on a console game and plenty of it if you've ever watched one play them. What I can't see and would assume the more veteran an experienced aged gamer would be enjoying this pattern for very long. I could be wrong as JD seems to be getting into it. I'd just be more interested in some feedback after 30 or so hours into it? I mean I've even played 900 turns of it so far now and though the combat is about as fun an exciting as a can of spinach (actually I like spinach) it does have an addictiveness to it. I keep saying when I reach that 300 turn mark...already? It hasn't been 300 turns!..This demo is a ripoff lol.[:D]

Wouldn't be the first time I was likened to a 12 year old! [;)]

mmm....not yet. Unfortunately, I've just come across the opportunity to fly to Scotland and watch Scotland play Australia at Rugby in the Autumn Internationals....and I had to snap it up.
It's really is one of the few games I've played the tutorial through on through, and...more than that...played the game after. So there's definitely something there

It's one of the few games I've played through the tutorial and the regular game three times to 300 turns. Even as repetitive as the combat is the rest of the game has nostalgia type memories in it like Privateer and HOMM play. I did notice some difference playing the mercenary over the pirate though. The pirate can be more of a trader but the mercenary gets better skills to start off with makes it even easier to eliminate the opponents in combat. Upgrade to that 70% ecm and get the 1ap laser and you're good to go for awhile it seems.
I have a question about the promotional skill that gives reinforcements in the 'neutral' areas? What are the neutral areas and do you get the normal reinforcemets as well as these when in them?

Neutral areas are battle zones. Normally you do not receive reinforcements in battle zones. The idea of reinforcements is to protect players who just wish to play a pure trader and consequently have a less powerful armed freighter.

Just add a real time fighting sequence like Freelancer in your combat engine and you'd have yourself a gem of a winner here. [:)]
