I bought Warhammer Dawn Of War I Platinum for 14.00 on Amazon. Hopefully that should keep me busy for a while. I took a look at World in Conflict but wasn't sure I'd like it or not.

Another question. I like Codename Panzers a lot. It's sort of like Panzer General meets RTS. There's no resource gathering or base building or anything like that. You basically start out with a small group of units and then expand and upgrade your units through a long linear campaign. Are there any other RTS games like that out there? I really like the format. I don't know what World in Conflict is like but I'm wondering if it's similar.

In WIC you have purchase points at the start to buy your initial troops. Then as you capture objectives and kill enemies, it gives you more purchase points. No base building. But pace is way too fast (C&C-like).

Yeah, I saw a couple comments on Amazon about the pace of WIC being too fast. I like games where you have time to think out a strategy to achieve your goals. I've never been a great fan of click fests. That's basically why I didn't get the game. I'll have to do more research into it.

I expect Starcraft 2 to be a bit of a revival for the PC games industry in terms of sales numbers. I think 9 millions units sold in 2010 is possible. If it beats COD Black Ops I expect it could also be the biggest selling game of the year which has not happened to a PC game in a very long time.

I expect the same,....but there is going to be a stink. The game is shipping with only the terran campaign. To play the other two factions campaigns you will have to buy them seperately..........................

Wings of Liberty- Terran Campaign
Heart of the Swarm- Zerg campaign
Legacy of the Void- Protoss campaign

In that case it's probably best to wait for the "complete" edition to come out in a couple years. I seldom buy games new anymore. I usually wait for all the expansions to be combined into a "deluxe" package and then buy that several years after release at a discount. Look at me, I just now bought Warhammer DOW I for the first time. I don't get to play all the latest sensations but at least I save a LOT of money that way. [8D]

I will wait for the Complete edition of Starcraft II. What's irritating is that they are charging $60 and you only get the Terran Campaign. Unless I find it cheap on eBay, not a chance. Probably because they know loyal fans have been wait 10+ years for this sequel and they know some are willing to pay anything to get it. I like starcraft but not that much.

Yes, World in Conflict is instant action game. The developers have even stated that WiC is an "Real-Time Action" Strategy game. It's fun, but there is little to no strategy, and the game is overrun by tactical aids. You control maybe 20 units tops(10 in most matches) and the game instantly degrades to who can plot the best tactical aid. The game is won by the person who is fast and can perfectly time when to place airstrikes. You will see like 6 different aircraft making airstrikes at once with crago planes flying in droppping their loads. By no means is it any representation of real warfare.

The game is going to have 35 missions.
And if you buy the game for the single player you are missing the entire point of Starcraft.

You and Osprey are going to be waiting about six years then [:D]
Heart of the Swarm is scheduled for 2013 and Legacy of the Void in 2016

I dislike Real Time Strategies like Starcraft, Command & Conquer, Dawn of War. I dislike base building and hitpoint based combat.

I fully agree, Warcraft, Starcraft, Command and Tank Rush..that's "wargaming" for dummies.

I hated and hate all of blizzards RTS. Nothing more the a mindless clickfest IMO.

I agree too. They're not very complicated to play. You can pick them up off the shelf and learn how to play in 10 minutes. But they are still a lot of fun to me. I don't really lump them into the category of "wargaming" at all. They're not very realistic and they don't try to be. But when you're an old bachelor like me and don't have anything else to do on the weekends it can be a fun form of relaxation.

Best way to see if you'll like WiC is to just download the demo, Gary. I'm a fan of the game. It is fast paced, but because you don't have a lot of units under direct command, I never felt overwhelmed...and I HATE clickfest RTS games like Supreme Commander.

Kids these days don't need a campaign. They'll just play multiplayer.

BTW, I find WIC to be quite nice. For me I only play the single mission campaign and the pace is much more managable because it's scripted. I tried multiplayer but as the previous post said, it's an insane artillery / airstrike match. There is a hint strategy if you coordinate with your teammates. But in the world of online multiplayer... chaos is the norm.

Yea but is the Multiplayer alone worth $60? I would pay $500 for War in the Pacific before I would pay full sticker price for StarCraft 2, especially since it's not even all the campaigns. Does that mean I'm going to have to give Blizzard $280(60x3) for 3 separate campaigns that will only give me maybe 30 hours tops? Nope not happening. My views may change if the Campaign turns out to be well thought out and fairly long.

It's 35 missions long, and it sounds like the missions are not short either.

We will see when the game officially arrives tomorrow and reviews come up.

It's the new math ;)

And I have the Collectors edition in my paws. It took me 20 minutes to figure out how to open the damn thing.

I just had lunch in a local I.T. Mall (in Singapore).  They are holding the Starcraft 2 launch as I type.  There's a big crowd of kids eager to get their hands on their pre-orders (game with goodie bag).  The line was so long it reached outside the mall. By the looks of it, the hype of this launch is bigger than the iPad launch last Friday.

Regarding SC2 I will wait for a trial code. 7h playtime should be enough to peek into the game and refresh old memories.
