If only we could play a game without cheating?! Seriously - who in their right mind cheats at ANYTHING and gets any level of satisfaction from what they've done?

Believe me, when I missed capturing Moscow, on the last turn before the blizzard hit, by one measly point of Combat Value, I was VERY tempted, and there is no cheat protection whatsoever on the current test version and no one would have known except me.[:)]

HUE will be available at a discount for those who own either H3ANW or HCE.

Very disappointing, as that seems to imply a discount in the region of the pathetic offering for CoG:EE. Surely you can muster a really "significant" discount for those who have purchased both?

Thanks for the info Erik.

I guess it's in the nature of Harpoon that if a large patch with several improvements comes along, the DB becomes obsolete.  Which also means all scenarios need to be updated as well.  Sometimes it's more convenient to keep the older versions and have completely new set of DBs and scenarios for the new version.  That's how hardcore Harpoon fans do it.  But I'm not hardcore.  This HCE purchase needs a little more deliberation and convincing.  Looking forward to more details.

The discount will be significant, but note also how many years it has been since the previous Harpoon releases. The HCE side along includes a ton of archival releases too. Pretty much every Harpoon Classic or H3 scenario ever made should run with one of the HCE or H3 versions we're including in this package. It should be very friendly as far as backwards compatibility for that reason, as we realized that while Harpoon needs to keep evolving and moving forward, we need to make it easier for customers to continue to play the older classic content as well.

- Erik

FYI the PBEM in WITE will be able to use the server-based system (which we recommend for player matching and security) or the plain old send a file to your opponents system. I recommend using the server based system though, it does make it much easier IMHO to handle the file exchanges and find opponents.

SST looks like to be a cool $19.99 game.

I dunno, looks like a wait and see for me:
This is 100% pure tactical combat, with no base-building, no research trees, no resource management and no strategic planning and absolutely no random encounters.

Features:
28 hand-crafted missions, requiring a wide range of tactical approaches.

Keep waiting, Nefarious...

I am hoping it is a much improved Star Sentinel Tactics than the one I wasted $30 on at Impulse. I figured I was the only fool who bought it.

Not fair to go into details at this point, as some things may change. But when I think of the worst games I ever wasted money on, SST is the first to come to mind. It made Hired Guns look awesome.

Well, you´re certainly not the only fool.

"Wide range of tactical approaches", my ass. As far as I´ve played, you have five guys with pistols, and the only approach is to concentrate your firepower on one enemy after the other.

That's the way I used to play CRPG's the gold box series and the like. Concentration of power was always the ticket. It would be different if someone would make these tactical games like reality "one shot kills" and then allow for inaccuracy moreso than you need 10 shots to kill this thing.

Jagged Alliance 2 does that fairly well. A sniper rifle will kill most enemies in one or two hits, and a sniper can get off two shots per turn, which if the sniper is competent (like Raven or Scope are) usually means two hits per turn.

I also like to play Oblivion for that... sneak through a enemy-infested ruin and pick off the bandits, marauders, conjurers, necromancers or whatever via sneak attack with poisoned arrows, which is usually a one shot kill except against tough enemies (such as orcs of a warrior class) wearing heavy armor.

I wasn't counting updates in that, by the way. We actually have ten releases that COULD realistically be finished and released by mid-December. Obviously, some will not make it, we are working hard and trying to give every release the best possible chance.

Here's a list of _possible_ pre-Christmas releases, product pages will start popping up very soon for all those that don't have them already.

Harpoon Ultimate Edition
Making History II (with Multiplayer)
Star Sentinel Tactics
Revolution Under Siege
Gary Grigsby's War in the East
Distant Worlds Expansion
Panzer Command: Ostfront
Field of Glory Swords and Scimitars
Battlefield Academy: Battle for France
Great Battles Medieval

WHAT? [X(]

No Combined Arms? I'm shocked.

Nor indeed Lock 'n Load, of which I'm rather less shocked. [;)] I sometimes wonder if these two (or indeed three, considering WiF) are competing for the wargames 'longest ever in development' award. Then I remember Shrapnel's 82nd Airborne! [:D]

Shrapnel still have 82nd on their website. Apparently, after years of waiting, it will be ready by summer 2009.

There's an AAR on wargamer for harpoon UE. Still seems to have the same bugs that have plagued the release since classic. Planes that don't fire ordnance, subs with a poor max depth.

Still going to get it. Harpoon and Railroads and Civ were my first 3 game purchases and were the best 3 purchases I ever made. Even if it did take 10 days to configure the 5.25 floppy's to run.

Yes, and it is my understanding from reliable sources that Summer 2009 is a firmdate ;)

...its a shame...at one time I was really, really looking forward to this title....
