Turn 3 start - South.

Will continue to withdraw in this sector and try to form a new line as shown. The units circled in red will be railed out.

That completes the tour of the Polish situation at the start of the turn. Coming next will be the Polish situation at the end on the turn.

Turn 3 end - South.

Wasn't able to form a full line, but the river should slow down any advance by the Germans. I was able to blow a few bridges and am well positioned to blow the rest of them next turn.

Turn 3 end - Lodz to Krakau.

Got new lines formed, but they will definitely be broken next turn. The Germans can break through anywhere they want, although not necessarily everywhere they want. The whole objective in this sector is to sacrifice units and ground for time.

And note that Juliusz Rommel has been moved up to the front lines to share the fate of the units under his command.

Turn 3 end - West.

Formed a new line and got some bridges blown. I probably need to slow the Germans down a little in this area or they might get to Warsaw before the German 10th Army driving up from the Lodz area does.

Turn 3 end - Northwest.

Not a lot different from the start of the turn, although I did manage to get all the bridges blown.

That's the entire front for this turn. Losses have been low so far for the Poles, but that will change somewhat next turn as surrounded units are eliminated. I'm happy with the defense the Poles have put up so far. It will be interesting to see what the next turn brings.

Below are the losses for the Poles and the Germans.

I think you are doing exceedingly well.

Thanks for the excellent AAR. Where do I find the units' graphic mod showing the combat power at zoom out?

it seems the german player plays a rather strange game. there are HQ units exposed (only to your isolated units but still) and he lost quite a bunch of engineers.
i guess you are an experienced pbem player, what's your take on the german course of action?

Thanks RedCharlie. I'm pretty happy with the situation so far myself. My one concern is that the Germans are currently 16 hexes from Warsaw and only need to average an advance of 2 hexes per turn to reach it before the last turn.

The only mod I am using is the swastika flag mod I made. All the screenshots from this turn are at the middle zoom level, which shows the combat power of the units without a mod. The only zoom level that doesn't show the units combat power is the maximum zoom level.

If I remember correctly CYORESS1 is fairly new to DC, so some of his play style is certainly the result of his inexperience. My first couple of games against the AI I used engineers as scouts, but in my other PBEM game I have resisted the urge to do that. CYORESS1 has caused me to pull back my lines a few times with his engineers scouting forward, but he has also lost a few engineers with that strategy. I think it is a net loss for him, but it could work out to his advantage in the end. However if we were playing a campaign, losing so many engineers would be a serious handicap in the future scenarios.

I was also surprised when I found a HQ so close to the front lines. If my unit had had enough APs to attack it I would have. Even killing 100 staff would have hurt him. The German HQs don't need to be so far forward, they only need to be within 8 hexes of the units under their command, and they should be left in a position so that supply can flow with as few APs as possible to it.

This is only my second PBEM game of DC, but I have played quite a few other PBEM games over the years. Playing against the AI causes you to develop bad habits that a human player will exploit. I think CYORESS1 has played well enough to have a possibility of still winning the game. He could have done better and he could have done worse.

HHMM...I'm running 1.04d and the middle zoom level does not show combat power, i.e., I see the combat power only at full zoom in.

BTW, I used the swastika mod prior to installing the latest beta patch but have not applied to 1.04d. I'm thinkin' that could be the reason?

It might have something to do with your screen resolution, but there is no way it could have anything to do with the flag mod, it's just a swap out of a graphics file.

I see the combat values at 2560x1440, 1900x1200 and 1900x1080 in the middle zoom level. What Screen resolution are you using?

I'm running at 1600x900..so could be the issue. Game must look great at 2560x1440!!

Actually have been looking at sales for a bigger 19x10 monitor. My old eyes may not do too well w/ higher resolutions though.

I splurged and bought a 27" 2440x1560 monitor a few months back and it does make games look great. If you look at the mini maps in the sceenshots for the first turn you can see how much of the map I can see at one time at 2560x1440. The sceeenshots for turn three were done on my laptop at 1920x1080 and if you compare the red box you can see the how much more of the map you can see at once.

Very enjoyable to read and making me want to play this title again. So many games, so little time :(
