Don't worry, if Empire of the Rising Sun has weathered loss of 130 planes in a turn before demolishing Allied carrier fleet, losing 34 now won't stop it from walking the path of domination.

Also, according to Tokyo Rose, nothing noteworthy happened in Andamans on September 3rd. And rumors about exhaustion of Japanese airforce are greatly exaggerated.

One sad aspect of playing Japanese is looking at results like this:

and still doubting, if the whole operation (the invasion of Umnak Island, for those who might watche only this AAR) had any meaning. (Well, losing one of my best AOs to your subs didn't help too.)

But, if I can give a bit of friendly advice, the only case when Allies should risk KB defences with just two fighter squadrons is trying to get dive bombers/torpedo bombers/skipbombers to Japanese ships... because this is the only case when the payoff might just be big enough.

And while I'm here, the current list of top Japanese aces. I have a feeling, though, that their scores don't look at all impessive, compared to the Allies' best. Alot of carrier pilots here - they usually fought at favorable odds for most of this war, only once used to challenge CAP over a major Allied base.

yes, this is what the sbd/p40 where set to do but lack of experience caused them to separate on the way to the fight. Maybe better luck later.

3)Players' greater risk tolerance, loss tolerance and willingness to outright sacrifice troops, ships and planes, compared to RL planners. Affects the Japanese side too, as many players do not mind expending assets that will be useless late in the war anyway, but mostly impacts how the Allies are willing to act, compared to RL.
Nothing really can be done about this aspect, except outsmarting and punishing one's opponent for his aggressiveness.

Hey, it is not my fault FatR lost 900 pilots at the Andamans. [8D]

correction, 900 planes...[:'(]oh yah, just fly those sallies all day long..

900 pilots might be close to the truth, actually... if we take all categories of losses into account. But Andamans will be yet another example of ahistorical willingness to accept losses leading to victory[8D].

Besides, as long as this

remains the most common result of air combat, why not?

Okay, I've underestimated you. Will need some time to think about the response.
I wonder if FatR has been chewing the bark alittle too long.

The most common view on Changsha front during the last week:

Image

British lackeys were already taught to fear the might of our aviation and armor, now it's the turn for the Chinese to learn that their resistance is futile. Intelligence estimates that over 115 thousands of Chinese were killed, wounded or taken prisoner over mere five days.

Two turns ago the Great IJA 15 division death star crossed the river 3 hexes SE of Kwieyang...... and launched a shock attack w/depicted results against the Central reserve.

Ground combat at 76,51

Japanese Shock attack

Attacking force 157835 troops, 1938 guns, 1026 vehicles, Assault Value = 6059

Defending force 89228 troops, 646 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 3505

Japanese adjusted assault: 4344

Allied adjusted defense: 4141

Japanese assault odds: 1 to 1

Combat modifiers
Defender: terrain(+), experience(-), supply(-)
Attacker: shock(+)

Japanese ground losses:
9175 casualties reported
Squads: 37 destroyed, 692 disabled
Non Combat: 39 destroyed, 836 disabled
Engineers: 7 destroyed, 148 disabled
Vehicles lost 43 (1 destroyed, 42 disabled)

Allied ground losses:
4495 casualties reported
Squads: 14 destroyed, 422 disabled
Non Combat: 17 destroyed, 171 disabled
Engineers: 0 destroyed, 1 disabled

Seemingly unknown to FatR a 400 AV force was moving east into Kweiling to block the Death star resupply effort.

Further to the west one armored div ran into 600AV blocking the path for a supporting breakout from the mountians. Seems the 5 division force has been split in half w/ 2 divisions on the burma road returning to Lashio. All along this path are chinese units waiting to cut supply.

An artillery recon at kweiling showed the following results. Seems the closest reinforcement is on the move to the west from the rail line to changsha and will have to fight thru my remiants to get into Kweiling. This turn no ground attacks were launched by IJA on the map.
