I don't understand why he has such narrow penetrations, and yet most of his units are in stacks...you think he'd want to spread out a bit to defend his flanks more, prevent cut-offs. Can any German players shed any light on this?
Narrow penetrations allow you to concentrate your forces more when attacking a critical spot. The downside of course is that it is easier to cut off.
Anyway, nice work Tarhunnas. I always thought that Pelton's playstyle was risky against an aggressive Soviet player, but it's still an early game. I look forward to see how the game develops.

Be interesting to see what Pelton does next.
He says his strategy works, and that he hasn't been able to defeat it before taking on somebody else.
Looking forward to it

You've got stuff digging at Leningrad, right? Especially the backdoor hexes?

Indeed. Actually, only the back door hex. There are only so many units. But it will improve shortly!

Overview of front, turn 3, before Soviet movement but after recon.
The panzer thrusts in north and center have stalled. There seems to be some evidence that the Germans are now regrouping to protect their lines of supply.
In the south, the Panzers barge on and are over the River at Kiev! Impressive move! Easy to despair as the Soviet when one sees these kind of penetrations, but we will see what can be done about it.
The Grossdeutschland has been up to a little penetration of its own down south, evidently facilitated by the regimental movement bug. It almost succeded in cutting off an new pocket. However, it might well have motored itself into trouble...

I have sent one infantry corps, the strong one that starts east of Rovno, to Pskov. And the stuff that starts at Chernigov all went north on my turn 2, so I have to some extent been favoring the north and center.
In retrospect, moving the Chernigov army north was a mistake by me. I should have realized that the southern thrust was the most dangerous one, as the center and northern thrusts had been cut off. It would have been nice to have the Chernigov boys behind the river at Kiev now instead of hanging around at Mogilev.
The Kiev move is nicely executed by my opponent. It also cuts the rail links, which means the industry in Kiev is stuck. Happily, I evacuated some of the armaments factories last turn. In my opinion, armaments are the bottleneck of Soviet rearmament, so I tend to prioritize them.

Looks like Pelton has developed some sloppy habits playing weak opponents. Good to see that sloppiness punished.
He will regroup quickly though - beware his use of HQ buildup.
Good to see an AAR between two good players.

Yeah, stalled and regrouping probably means gassing the panzers. Interesting Axis turn coming up. PG2 getting cut off a bit may have screwed up his time table perhaps, but he is absolutely going for the big encirclement again.
Looks like the Lehr brigade is in action as well. Both those should be made to pay. Both are high moral units as well.

It's a good time for him to gas up and bring up the ground pounders. He will need them to punch holes for his panzers so they can use all their movement for exploitation.
Gross Deutschland is definitely out there all by itself. But that also means your units are a long way from it. Might be difficult to get a good odds attack on it.
Just my perspective as an Axis player, but he is setting up for the historical German plan to sweep south along the Dnepr to the coast. I'd bet a donut on that. [:'(]

Lol, I take your bet. I predict he will use 1st Panzer to cross the river in force and then head north towards Moscow.

He is going to do his multiple panzer thrust and head to Kharkov.

Will be interesting to see anyway. fiva, I'll need you to sign this waiver of liability for any physical problems stemming from eating a donut, including but not restricted to obesity, sugar highs, dizziness and excessive joy.

Hard to tell without having a better knowledge of your forces, but cutting off that southern thrust looks like it could be a bit tricky.
Nice, wide lanes like that stop the '41 Russians dead
Crossing the Dnepr on Turn 3 is a disaster for you, but his Panzers must be have high fatigue and they have probably outrun their air support.
But with the way he plays, once he's across the Dnepr in strength, then he could go anywhere, and you just don't have the forces to do anything about it

If he follows his own playbook he will swing north and cut off everything around the marsh.
Time to scram but leave enough people behind to harrass him.

Does he have enough on the north side of the marshes to actually do connect the pincers?

Hard to tell by the screenshot but there is a long line of Axis units heading towards the Gomel area.

In the south, the Lehr brigade discovers that there are some harsh lessons left on the curriculum (Lehr means training in German). We do the same to the Grossdeutschland for good measure.

And an overview of the southern front after Soviet moves. Reinforcements are railed to the area east of Kiev.
