Turn 6

Overall
%#&#!!!!
There are two things Sean is doing extremely well, and that is to break pockets (yup Lvov pocket reopened (see below)), and set up reserve activation (as per MT's post in main thread).
So, I grab more empty land, and I close the Lvov pocket for the N'th time, but since I cannot place atleast two units per hex, I am sure it will break...again...The reserve activations are effectively grounding me to a halt, and I now need something like 3:1 for a planned attack, and 5:1 for a hasty one [8|]
Oh well, on the good side, I do not have to run far in the winter to get away from the Blizzard (only wish it would be that easy to deal with spam mails from "Blizzard" from my WoW days [:D]).
The USSR launched one attack and caused a retreat (see below), while we only managed 54 attacks this turn. The results were 12 helds, 31 retreats, 3 routs, 1 shatter and 7 surrenders.
Spent alot of points on leader reassignments, most notably, Kesselring and Manstein takes over AGN and AGC, while Rundstedt stays in the South.

USSR units in pockets at start of turn
7.

USSR units in pockets at end of turn
29.

Losses
USSR : 87.000 troops, 1.419 guns, 378 AFVs, 38 AC.
Axis : 25.000 troops, 134 guns, 206 AFVs, 33 AC.
I am now losing more AC than the USSR as well. Things are REALLY hunk-a-dory atm...

USSR units destroyed
1 Fortified Region, 1 NKVD Border Regiment, 1 PVO AA Regiment, 4 Rifle Divisions, 1 Tank Division.

German Pools
Manpower : 434
Vehicles : 191.970
Armaments : 77.175
Hiwi : 38.075

Turn 7 aka darned

Disclaimer
1. I forgot to count # of units in pockets at end of turn this turn.
2. I had a screenshot taken, but the bug (see below) got me to take another screenshot before I could think about what I was doing.

Overall
Yup, Lvov pocket reopened, but that is NOT the reason for the Darned tag. I am hit with the bug that does not allow me to fly resupply missions [:(]
Oh well, let us focus on the good news. It seems that Seans commitment to reopening the Lvov pocket might grant me LG, and since LG was my goal for 1941, things are not too bad I suppose. We are now 3 hexes east of the Luga river, and I did not spot any units in front of me (true there are some on my flanks, but not enough to pose a threat).

USSR units in pockets at start of turn
4.

USSR units in pockets at end of turn
???.

Losses
USSR : 83.000 troops, 973 guns, 1.091 AFVs, 85 AC.
Axis : 29.000 troops, 136 guns, 203 AFVs, 230 AC.

USSR units destroyed
2 Fortified Regions, 1 Mountain Division, 1 Rifle Division, 2 Tank Divisions.

German Pools
Manpower : 371
Vehicles : 183.777
Armaments : 79.149
Hiwi : 43.944

You have to be within 5 MP of the supply grid. That has been changed in one of the last patches.
I actually think it is good to have the southern pocket opened until about turn 6. Otherwise you would be out of your supply range. You have to close it soonish, though. I would try for a large pocket. They are actually easier to do in 41 then small ones. Ifyou manage it, he won't have stuff around to open it.

BTW congratulation on your last game. I found it and your AAR tarrific!

Having been frustrated in your attempts to breakthrough and pocket, perhaps it would be best to switch to the sledgehammer strategy where you focus on building up your morale? Reserve activation won't a problem if you're using overwhelming force all along the line, and will ensure the maximum impact on his morale. Indeed I would say that is the weakness in such a strategy. If his frontline units are supporting each other every victory you have will make the next one easier.

Yeah read about it, will have to see if it changes next turn, if not...Oh well.
Thank you [:)]

Well, IF Sean continues to focus in the south, I will be happy as that should allow me to seize LG, move the Fins in and allow them to dig in and keep the city.
The problem is that I am allready using overwhelming force, and that will not allow me to make many attacks per turn. But we shall see next turn. I am not too concerned just yet, as Sean is defendign far to the front, which means there is a chance to pocket units as I progress.

True, I have not advanced far, and Moscow will not fall this year, but then again I NEVER take Moscow in -41, so nothing new there [:D]
Next time I will try to remember to make a screenie of the frontline [:)]

Turn 8 aka where did they go?

Overall
This is getting silly on par with Monthy Pythons best efforts... Sean fell back all over AGC and AGS, but ofc he reopened the Lvov pocket first [8|].
As a result of the USSR retreats, not alot of attacks were made this turn. The USSR launched 12, and scored 9 helds, 2 scouted and 1 retreat, while we only managed 33 attacks, which gave a result of 8 helds, 19 retreats, 2 routs and 4 surrenders.
And yes, I was unable to count properly last turn, so no bug thankfully. Just have to realize that it is 1-2-3-4-5-6, not 1-2-3-4-6-5 or how it was I counted...

USSR units in pockets at start of turn
5.

USSR units in pockets at end of turn
27.

Losses
USSR : 84.000 troops, 1.171 guns, 563 AFVs, 211 AC.
Axis : 27.000 troops, 135 guns, 182 AFVs, 100 AC.

USSR units destroyed
2 NKVD border regiments, 1 Guards Leningrad PM Rifle Division (do these only fight during the PM?), 2 Rifle Divisions.

German Pools
Manpower : 483
Vehicles : 179.812
Armaments : 82.915
Hiwi : 47.576

Terje you can lessen attrition for Fins, no need to have all these in contact.
This one will be harder may be [:)]

Yeah I will as soon as those two units are forced to surrender, just anted to minimize the chance that Sean managed to free them.
It allready is harder [:D]

Keep pushing for Leningrad you really need to free those Finns to help you make noise in the North. Can we get screens of AGC and AGS situations next turn?

Turn 9

Overall
We keep pushing towards LG, and gain another 3 hexes, and it does look like we will be able to take the city (fingers crossed!!).
Sean is still falling back somewhat, and that limits the ammount of attacks we can make, and since we are still dealing with the Lvov pocket [8|], the lack of infantry on the line means that I cannot fully release PzA-Red (yeah I know, I should know the number of the PzAs by now, but colours are easy [:D]). So, that means that Sean will reach the rivers more or less intact, so the Red Army should be rather large by the time Blizzard arrives...
The Red Army makes 12 attacks, and scores 11 helds and 1 retreat. Too bad all these attacks are against my panzers. I do not fear running my panzers low in terms of CV, but I prefer to do so by attacking, not retreating [;)].
Our 71 attacks result in 17 helds, 1 scouted, 38 retreats and 15 surrenders. We still get far too many held results for my liking.

USSR units in pockets at start of turn
28.

USSR units in pockets at end of turn
6.

Losses
USSR : 207.000 troops, 2.415 guns, 1.149 AFVs, 84 AC.
Axis : 27.000 troops, 179 guns, 212 AFVs, 78 AC.

USSR units destroyed
1 NKVD border regiments, 1 Rifle Brigade, 9 Rifle Divisions, 4 Mountain Divisions, 2 Cavalry Divisions, 5 Tank Divisions.

German Pools
Manpower : 539
Vehicles : 172.421
Armaments : 85.982
Hiwi : 50.618
