Wow daz, all I can say is that I am impressed (understatement) with the amount of effort you have put into this. Very well done.

Wow! I was in nappies (diapers) when you where serving.

I did however do my basic training using the 25 pounder back in the 1980's.
That either goes to show how good the gun was, or how slow gun development became after the war. lol.

Actually I think it was just to get people to work as a team, and give you a very basic grounding on working with the gun itself.
After basic, people went on to their units where they could be working with any number of different weapons systems.
I only spent a short time myself working on a 105mm light gun battery, before then, after some very tough courses, specializing as a Naval Gunfire Observer.

C'mon D. time to hit PLAY.

I have been thinking exactly the same thing mate. Especially now I have interest in my long term play thread.
I am still keen however to finish the planning Guide in detail, so what I am thinking of doing is starting another thread, and starting the battle AAR in that.
I will then continue with the planning Guide as and when I have time.

Its kind of a strange way to go about it, but I already know the plan I am going to use. It will just take me a long time to make the slides to explain all the thought process that went into it.
It would mean that you guys will see the battle unfold without knowing what the overall plan was or how I come to develop it until its over (obviously trial and error came into it a lot, a luxury they never had in real life, or in your first run through of a battle). Are you ok with that?

I'm not however going to start it until Dave has had a chance to look into a potential bug as reported here:
tm.asp?m=3313015
Its just to frustrating to go through all the effort of setting up your orders across the whole front line then having them bunker down because you haven't allowed them enough time to get there.
As most of you agreed in that thread, and I'm sure would happen in real life the commanders would not just bunker down, but carry on with the mission as soon as they could get there, especially if another Battalion had already started the assault that was relying on you for support.

Superb, Daz. Really engrossing stuff. They should be paying you. I think - for me - you should just finish this guide then fight it. Anyway, it will take them that long to sort out the bug you mention.
