smash him to the NW of the landing zones - you can cut off GD with a strong attack on the 2 divisions next to it, and a bit of mop up on the weak divisions to its right. GD will wither and die, and your follow on landings should be enough to secure what you are already holding

You had four beaches, you can survive on two. If you lose another beach, evacuate. Are you flying them in supply each turn? Use airborne troops to cut off his northern flank, he looks weak there. Or punch thru the 12thss and 1/90th PzG and cut off his rail net to Rome. You have more than enough movement, it appears, to smash 3rd SS Pz also. Do ALOT of RECON, and make sure there's not a pz corps sitting up there waiting for you [;)]. Maintain your naval patrols so you continue to get supplies. The Canadian's may die, but he'll have to work for it, so I wouldn't evacuate them. Every turn your on the beach, you get stronger so long as you have supplies coming in. That's what I'd try. Not knowing the disposition of your forces and how much air you have in corsica yet, that is my best guestimation. I don't think your opponent realizes the peril his units south of Rome are in. He's fortunate you landed so late and it's light mud.
Air units are building up on Corsica now. Next turn should be able to start being productive. Flying in supply, but having to shift transports around because they were set up to drop paras in the toe.

the mud and the battles fought in the hexes on the way to cutting of GD would make it impossible. Im to chicken to make hasty attacks, I am afraid of panzer reserves eating me if I get too crazy

Here is what I came up with:

Beat the crap out of 3rdSS
Smashed my way up into the rough hexes and knocked GD back out of Civitechiea

Failed to attacks trying to link up Canadian beaches.

Monty says he is on the way to rescue me, but time will tell.
I feel like I am running out of cardboard, those 4 armor divisions in 8th army would be nice to have north of Rome right about now.
Serious air battles over the beaches and landings, most of which I seem to be winning. New p47's come online next turn.

My opinion about the toe after you reach the river is to use the infantry and 7th Armored to hold that line, and to make him leave his forces there to keep you in check or withdraw. Whatever he leaves there can't be used against your invasion, and you have the potential to cut them all off. Either way, those armored divisions where you landed at, would have already jeopardized his whole defense south of Rome, if they were there. He's having to use several divisions down there to keep you in check, you don't need the armor there. No need to push the toe unless you have to, brit casualties cost more in vp's, and it will cost you casualties breaking that line and the ones all the way to Rome.

I'm not an expert, by any means. The advice is free.[8D]

Note: When hvy mud hits, things will become difficult, and Rome loses it's value after Jan 44 starts.

Relying on Monty to link up with anything? That's not a bet I would take, given the historical track record.

Start of Turn 20

I screwed up in the Toe, looks like it will cost me an armored division.
Lots of air battles but I have hundreds vs the Luftwaffe's dozens.

It looks like clear weather, right? Fly supply to the Pols, and with those three divisions there you should be able to break that PzG Div and relieve them.

Up near Rome, and it's clear weather, I'd blast a gap thru the 3rdSS and the 338th Div. and run my armored units to Teramo, effectively cutting everyone off south of that line. Only escape will be thru the ports and they should all be bombed so they can't sea lift out. Assault those 3 hexes with infantry and run that armor over. He's really too weak to hit you from the north, he's too busy trying to kill the Canadians.

Sounds Dangerous. I don't feel confidant that I could supply my guys out that gfar, even if I could make it.
Not much recon to fly this turn because of weather

Not much excitement
I am worried about my freight levels trying to supply my horde.
Civitechia should be safe and getting freight next turn, I hope it helps.

Lots of air on Sicily with nothing to do but bomb the units around the polish armor.

Supply line stretching for 8th army

Just a reminder. Rome's value is cut by 3/4ths come Jan. 44 per turn. For those two months or so I have Rome, I usually am getting 20-25vps total (that include Rome). After Jan. the modifier goes up, and you know he has a lvl 4 rail depot there lol!

Not many choo choos left in rome and surrounding areas.

My reasoning for being conservative is that I am using almost as much freight as I am shipping in.
My concern is that a big offensive stretching out will run me out of freight and leave me very vulnerable to getting crushed like an egg.
Maybe I am too wimpy [:)]

Start of turn 21

Bad weather shuts down the strat bombers in the north, but I have lots of things to shoot at in the med now that the weather is better.
Germans seem to be healthy after a week of from my bombs.
I feel much more confidant about the freight level in the beachhead so I think it is time to attack.
Also totally need to redo air phase, was so depressed at seeing the bad weather last turn that I deleted all of the air directives.
Luckily my command bunker has been replenished with MTN Dew and I am once again ready to bomb away.

Air Plan
heavy bombers along with wellingtons are going back to work on railyards north of rome. Some other wellingtons hitting railways.
Some Fighterbombers from Corsica going after railways on the coast.
Lots of Fighterbombers with nothing to do in the south are bombing the crap out of the Toe

Decided to attack north, typhoons and hurricanes lead the way, half of tac air force on ground support, other half on interdiction north.
lots of extra fighters now for Air Superiority with stuff left over for defensive air.
