Observer Corps is not troops. It is listed as a "Surface Radar" in the database, so doesn't count as troops. Also, at a cargo load cost of 60, I don't think a PBY or most submarines could pick him up.

Observer Corps is not troops. It is listed as a "Surface Radar" in the database, so doesn't count as troops. Also, at a cargo load cost of 60, I don't think a PBY or most submarines could pick him up.

At this point the observer corps is irrelevant. If the object is to save a fragment of the unit to rebuild, then any of the new bits and pieces will do for rescue and transfer to a nice safe place to be rebuilt. The observer corps will be replaced with radar anyway!
But do try to march those very nice 3.7" AA guns back to civilization.

Part of the mystery of the original situation is that the troopless "observer corps" devices were still able to progress through the jungles. Local coolies, I suppose?

I had a similar experience with the Japanese "Static Device" that is part of their BFs in early game. I assume this is some large listening device that is too big to move and can't be disassembled (like a concrete structure?). On several occasions the IJA BFs were wiped out except for the "Static Device". Allied troops would move into the same hex with the static device and attack it, only to have it flee to the next hex in a decidedly non-static way. Repeat this five or six times and you get pretty annoyed.

Eventually the static device was surrounded on all six hex sides and disposed of. As Stretch says, this pursuit was entirely a sideshow just to find out WTH would happen.

That was an early "bug" which was fixed in a patch.

1.  A LCU which has already traversed part of the distance to its destination cannot be picked up by ship/sub.
 
2.  Only a commando type unit can be in combat mode and be picked up by a sub.  All other units must not be in combat mode to be picked up by a sub.

I hate to be anal Alfred, (no I don't, I'm having fun), but the word "a" precedes a consonant sound, "an" precedes a vowel sound.
So it matters not the spelling, (consider French where the spelling has little or anything to do with the pronunciation, did you know that "Reims" rhymes with "France" [as pronounced with an 'ahhh' sound])?
So, the English word "hour" would be proceeded by "an" because the h is silent. I'm noticing more and more that writers don't get that, nor their editors, even in newspapers with a respectable reputation.

And maybe Alfred intended the reader to sound out the full meaning of LCU, so instead of a leading EL sound of the acronym you get the consonant L sound of the word Land. [:)] My head hurts from thinking up all this inanity .....

Well, you lack the convenience of not having a brain. I can assure you that it is much better to not know how stupid you are and to go on thinking you know it all. I did a crossword recently that involved a quote of Abraham Lincoln.
