Just trying to draw your attention away from Noumea and it looks like it succeeded got that cruiser group to head back towards PM :)

Overall Im now confident that Noumea will hold his ground attacks have ceased and the attrition on his fleet must be growing a bomb here torp there ....another Val or 2 shot down it must all be adding up :)

I had to divert those ships to my outer bases not far from Gili to refuel em. Only enough fuel tankers to keep my most important ships on station. This campaign dragged out longer than anticipated....

Had to scuttle a CVE, flotation damage reached 96 and it still had 6 hexes to the nearest base.

Moved a few Betty sqd's to Guinea to make Crocky's diversion as expensive as possible!

That surface attack at Noumea could have been worse...but still.
Had to refuel most of my surface ships.

The Shokaku was almost dead in the water after that torp hit a few turn ago. Scuttled her this turn, first major capital ship casualty of the campaign.

Crocky is getting audacious...invading PM.
Ordered a shock attack this turn. Can I drive him out and isolate him at Lea Lea? I did leave 10k men there and my torpedo bombers got a sting.

Interesting turn!

The 7k troops that have been landed are now stranded after my 4 battleships pounded the escorts and transports into the deep!

A side show, but nevertheless...I need all the points I can get.

The long retreat has begun... To be more exact: It has been going on for quite some time already. Couldn't keep my troop ships at Noumea any longer as all my covering forces had to return to base to refuel and refit.

It took awfully long time to load the troops at Noumea, I got little over 20k out. The 50k left on the island are well supplied and will hopefully remain there for a while.

This war will be a long one.....

The last few turns of air to sea strikes will conclude the Noumea campaign. Both sides will most likely return to port and try to regroup for the inevitable battles to come.

The attempt to capture Noumea was a failure, but it was a very close thing. Not sure how many more troops I would have needed to capture it. I only missed a few thousand men to have a clean 2-1 odds after the enemy fortifications had been eliminated.
If I had captured Koumac and the other bases on New Caledonia first, I might have suffered less losses and prolonged the campaign and - maybe managed to subdue Noumea as well.

The initiative has passed to the Allies and the IJN will now try to defend what it got.

Lack of game experience makes it a little difficult to tell what the future will bring, but heavy allied bombing attacks will most likely render Port Moresby and Lunga useless.

IJN capital ship losses have been light and I should be able to strike back in force when the US decides to invade.

I will not post uninteresting combat reports, so from now on posting might get a little unregular, but all major events will be posted.

Some action around PM. My BB's raided Cairns, but Crocky spotted em and escaped.
He's also running a rescue service for the troops at Lea Lea - they got a little to lightly off this last turn.....

The worst fuel crisis is over as tankers are returning from Truk.
It was a woeful experience to run my capital ships down to bingo fuel!

I'm a little surprised that the airgroups on some of my CV's that's been in constant action for 3 weeks havn't gained more experience! It's still at the lower 60's. If this action havn't made em hardened vet's - nothing will!!

Ok, here's a little competition for you all!
For how long can my 50k isolated troops at Noumea remain a thorn in Crocky's side?

They're pretty well supplied so it has to be done the hard way...

Been a while, but there's really not much happening.

The date is now 10/08/42

My 'garrison' at Noumea is holding it's own against US airstrikes.
A US deliberate attack by 11k troops didn't change anything either...

Crocky has to be very patient and/or move in a lot of troops to clear New Caledonia.

Most of my 'invasion fleet' has reached Rabaul or been withdrawn to Japan for repairs. Waiting for replacements and preparing for the next round. Lots of garrisons that needs to be rotated as well.

14/10-42

All damaged ships has been sent back to Japan and I'm awaiting reinforcements.

Occupied Kiriwina Island this turn, building bases and waiting for the storm.

The allied landing party at Lea Lea has been wiped out, only got about 4k men - the rest was evacuated by fast transports.

At New Caledonia the US are lanuching heavy airstrikes on the troops at Noumea and Tomo. Support and engineer troops have established a base at Tomo and are building fortifications.
This way the US have to split their attention.

Hi guys,

I have only just updated myself with this gripping little AAR. So the strike for Noumea failed eh? Pity as I have also tried it against the AI (set on hard) and failed. I have also failed in taking Australia ( or parts of it) for an auto victory. This leads me to my question, has ANYBODY had either an auto victory by taking an aussie port, and has anyone yet been able to take Noumea in a PBEM?????????

Great AAR guys.

Been slow going - both in turns and action.
US troops are stepping up their attacks on the isolated Jap troops at Noumea. Seems like they'll be able to drive them back to Tomo soon. I hope they'll continue posing a threat and tie up US forces.

Jap reinforcements are finally arriving and preparations for the 'next round' is going on continously.

Doesn't seem like anyone have successfully invaded and occupied Noumea Raverdale.....( I'm always going to be somewhat annoyed that I didn't pull it off though - so close but still so far away :p

The CinC himself for the Jap forces - that's me :] - did his own preparations for the forthcoming invasion of Australia today and sent applications for univiersities in both Sydney and Brisbane! So if his troops doesn't end up there........

I can't help but notice something strange in your AAR's...

Many times your Nell & Betty forces are dropping bombs AND torpedos during naval attacks. This is rather strange for obvious reasons.

These planes should always be attacking with torpedoes unless you happen to be attacking ships in a port. Are you telling them to attack at 100 feet perhaps? If you are, you might want to reset the height you use, as a bomb hit from a Nell/Betty is a minor scratch, a torpedo hit on the other hand is something to write home about! You can spot the difference as torpedo attacks happen at 200 feet in the AAR.

Glad to see Crocky, who I would say has brass balls for taking this mission impossible on, is giving you a serious fight.

Cheers for the Kiwi!

That's true Frag! I should definetly adjust the altitude for some of my lvl bomber squadrons. 200 ft is the correct setting, not 100...

Yes Crocky is giving me opposition - it was a game he could have lost easily if I had managed to capture Noumea. Now it'll be a long and hard battle.

A big surface battle took place this turn! Crocky has been building Wunpuko and I decided to disrupt him. He must have decided to play it safe and sent a powerful surface TF there.

R.Adm Matsuyama showed the yanks a thing or two:
His flagship - the CA Takao - got a day/night fighting skill of 94/97.
For the loss of 1 CA the allied TF was severely mauled - only the BB Wasthington escaped unscatched. Those battlewagons live a charmed life in UV :p

In those surface combats :

1 - Was the Allied TF on a bombardment or surface combat mission?

2 - Who was the commander of the TF?

3 - Did you have much in the way of air scouting in around the area?

Thanks -

Dave Baranyi
