This is going to be a fun ride. 40 posts in and nary a word about the game itself. I agree with Canoerebel - what a great title.

Did enthusiasm for Geoff's AAR give him a heart attack or prompt him to drop the match before it started?

So far, this is in the running as oddest AAR in the history of AE/WitP. 99% of the post are by others, the author has disappeared, and there hasn't yet been a single post about the actual game!

Working on it, working on it. Tomorrow I go in for jury duty, and even if they don't pick me then I'll likely have to come back Wednesday. If they pick me, it could be awhile, but I'm a green snaggletoothed guy so they probably won't pick me unless a Romulan is on trial. I've got a big fat spiral notebook with notes and plans from previous campaigns but they're like in code I don't remember anymore and they're from DBB-C games and the numbers are different in stock so I have to refigure all that plus I have a new strategy. Plus I'm pretty lazy lately.

You should totally bring your notebook and plans from previous campaigns along with you for jury selection. Review your Gornian tendencies with the attorneys involved in jury selection. Explain your plans for world (Imperial Japanese for now) domination as you show them your scarcely legible scrawl. Tell them about your imaginary friends "Chickenboy" and "BBfanboy". I suspect you'll be excused from further obligation on the jury because of your other very important activities.

Good idea. I think if Geoff expands that to "Galactic domination" and throws in a little foaming at the mouth that will get him out of jury duty. Maybe into a strait jacket, but definitely out of jury duty!

Aritophanes' recollection is identical to an older Israelite-Jewish traditional exegesis of the creation of first man and woman, according to which man and woman were created at one sole body at the beginning, two headed and two faced, but then G- separated them. Therefore they keep seeking one for the lost part of the other to completion.

Ahab himself is named, seemingly not unpurpotedly, after the biblical King Ahab, a double faceted personality, who was at time dubbed as a the greatest blasphemer, at time as a truly repentant one.

For the unwashed heathens from the South who wouldn't know Nantucket from Phuket, Moby Dick has about three (maybe more) layers of symbolism and it could not possibly be denser in that regard. As a simple example, the White Whale is a symbol for God and Nature at the same time and Ahab is a blasphemer against the natural order. Melville wrote to his friend Nathaniel Hawthorne (a great author in his own right) that "I have written a wicked book and feel spotless as the lamb." I'll try to relate this as best I can from memory as I don't have it before me; Aristophanes wrote a story about the origins of humankind (tongue firmly in cheek) saying that originally man was actually man/woman with four legs, four arms and two heads, but God (Zeus I think) got p.o.ed at them and threw thunderbolts splitting us all into the two sexes and warned if we angered him again he would split us in half once more and we should have to hop around on one foot then. Ahab has a streaky scar running down his face looking jagged and pale like a bolt of lightning and has had one leg taken by the White Whale. It's not too late to try reading it again while trying to understand what Melville is actually saying. Huckleberry Finn is one of the greatest books ever written in any language but in my view Moby Dick is a little step above.

That video was too apropos. The entire 48 member jury panel I was on got rejected in voir dire and sent home. So many people just disqualifying themselves, not because they wanted out but because they were stupid. I think I may have been rejected myself by the prosecutor. I don't think it was because I'm green, she asked "Who's been arrested before?" I had to raise my claw. After that she passed me over. She also asked if the defendant's age (17 at the time) made a difference because he was being tried as an adult. The usual liberal wet noodles said, 'yes, I could not convict', I held my forked tongue. Then "could you trust the testimony of a cop a) some of the time b) none of the time or c) all of the time?" They were all over on that one. The worst was when the PD started asking questions. It was a carjacking case (using a BB gun) and it was apparent that he did not plan to present a defense, just opening statement, cross examinations and closing statement. He asked if anyone thought he had to prove his client innocent and there was a bunch who said he did. At that point the judge threw up her hands and said the defendant couldn't get a fair trial and that she'd have to empanel a new group of 48 the next day and try again. A room of people, some with advanced degrees, in bad need of a Civics Course.

So I'm back to trying to prepare to smite AW1Steve. I'm looking at all my copious notes which I once understood, and it looks like a pile of spaghetti, al dente, and you find the end of one noodle and need to know where the other end is without disturbing the pile. I may lose what little I have left of a mind figuring this out. Have patience.
