McDonald's came to Istanbul around late 80's or early 90's as far as I can remember. But hamburger still not very popular because of köfte culture(meatballs) and döner. Same can be said for Italian risotto, already rice receipe(pilav- from Persia and Anatolia) and pizza (lahmacun) culture.

In the mid 70s McDonalds and Burger King came to my town in northern California. It was all the rage with my school mates (grade school) as their parents were taking them there.
My parents, oh it was on the "far side" of town (a couple miles) so we never went there.
It took a cross country car trip before I had my first McDonalds burger. Some off ramp that didn't have anything else. I can remember to get a tomato slice or cheese on it you had to pay 5 or 10 cents more!

I think the last time I had MacDonalds was a beer and an ice cream on the beach front... back in the old days when we could travel!

The last time I ate at McDonald's the hamburger tasted like soy. That was over twenty years ago.
