Wow, you are right, I learnt this possibilities only in the late times so I believed they didn't exist earlier but they do. Dunno if they a re implemented in MWIF.

A little clarification:
The 'overextension' in my reply is contextual. Meaning Axis going into Spain trying to go for Gibraltar late in the war (when the allies are strong) usually is suicide.
Or it should be, assuming a strong allied buildup of TRS, AMPH and ofc of land and air units, and allied control of Gibraltar and/or Suez. Just Suez is enough.

This does not apply to the early stages of the war, obviously, as the allies are weak then.

During my current playthrough Axis took Gibraltar early, but failed to grab Suez too (CW put Axis troops in Africa OOS permanently by staying in control of the Eastern Med).
Just when Axis were done wresting Gibraltar from the CW in 1941, after loosing quite a few troops because 55% chance on failing the 2D10 roll is still quite a big chance, Russia DOWed and drove through Axis forces in Poland almost into Germany proper. A lot of German air and land forces had to transfer to the eastfront, including much needed equipment for offensives (if ever any) in Africa towards Suez. Yey for early Russian focus on Germany.

Late '42 saw the allied invasion of Italy (conquered early '43), because taking Gibraltar is not enough to prevent this.
Now summer of '44 is coming and Germany has pulled out of Spain completely (but not Gibraltar) because of the immense threat of allied invasions in Southern France and Bretagne/Normandy at the same time, putting everything Axis in Spain OOS. Good illustratioin of what I mean by 'overextension'. If the allies have access to either Gibraltar OR Suez, Gibraltar and Spain cannot be held by the Axis. Trying to hold on to Spain could/should cause massive and unnecessary Axis losses.

Leaving out of the equasion whoever has the favor of the dice-gods...
