Hard to tell when this photo was taken. Well after the battle considering the growth around it.

Not exactly on-point, but an interesting note for me on Palau: Our disgraced former Williamson County, Texas District Attorney (John Bradley) was hired as Attorney General of Palau in 2014. He resigned about this time last year for "family reasons." He was part of the cover-up of the Michael Morton case here in Williamson County.

Damn, that looks EXACTLY like it does in The Pacific. I am more than a little jealous [8D]

Exactly my thoughts. When I saw the second picture, the distance shot of the communications center, I realized what great job they did in making The Pacific.

The combat footage in the series certainly got the communications center right.

Please understand that the "communication center" is not on the island of Peleliu but on Babeldaob. Babeldaob is the largest of the Palau islands and current home of the Capital, the international airport and several sites of Japanese ruins. The Americans did not invade Babeldaob but did heavily bomb the Japanese when they found them.

Next stop after the tank: the Japanese headquarters post on Peleliu. This was a couple hundred yards NE of the type 95 we had just seen. Even in ruins, you could tell it once stood at least two stories tall. Once the Navy started the pre invasion prep the facility became a target for large naval guns.

Once again it was clear that this building received a heavy dose of Marine and Navy fire power.

The next stop was the Peleliu WWII Memorial Museum, which was a dispensary before the war (according to Lonely Planet).
