KB is split, the two halves will sail up each side of the DEI,s .
Troop convoys following

Clarke airfield is the great battleground, he's gathered a lot of stuff there.
Looks the same at Singapore, and soerabaya

This is going to be a tough campaign

Well, Miller is bloody good

Over the last 3 days a rolling series of actions around macassar.
he packed the place with fighters........support, who needs no stinking support!, and
POW and repulse made a dash at KB lurking nearby

And soerabaya also was packed with planes

And Sunda straight with mines...........oh god, the mines

End result, after the horror of unescorted Val and kate strikes.

POW got 6 bombs, repulse 2 Torps
KB air arm is gutted..........
And 2 BB, 5 cruisers crawl away with bad damage from the mines

A horrible set of turns

I literally now have just 2 heavy cruisers undamaged, and 8 BBs left
Going to have to rethink this.
I see 180 fighters at soerabaya!!!!!!.....what the hell!

180 are really a lot, all DEI/Malaya fighters in a single place, any chance you can attack the other bases given that will be undefended?

Well, miller has been on holidays

No real time for details, but here is what he has done.
Sailed his CVs close to Java, and unloaded them
Clarke field has again suddenly packed with fighters, and his PT boats run interference
Talk about a CAP trap

And much the same in Java.
How ever we are almost at Singapore with our army, and at Clarke I have a fast growing army that will soon attack.
I hold at Kendari while KB goes to restock.

Man, miller is tough.........now I know why so many games of his end early.......he's bloody good!!

Miller loses another opponent
My view, and experience.
Miller sent his carriers into the dEI, unloaded the planes.
Every fighter on the map was used in 2 /3 big CAP traps, protected by mines at Clarke,
at Singa's , at Batavia
Fair enough........I tried to counter.
Lost every army fighter I had, then, KB gutted itself on a CAP trap, mines took half my surface fleet
in the sunda straight.
But the killer was two huge STF that surprised me at Palembang and near Kuching
I lost a air HQ, 3 CA's, and at Palembang, ......my entire naval air arm preparing to sweep, hit Singapore
in a terrible Naval bombardment
and then he invaded the gilberts.......all before January was over

I was fighting on., but Miller accused me of not having my heart in it, and called
my tactics pathetic

I can handle losing
NEVER being called pathetic

Miller is a brilliant player, if you want a game where winning is everything
I think, how he plays the DEI is nearly impossible now days to beat, he simply knows and
uses Japanese dispositions so well

So Kudos to him, he thrashed me.......I would have gone on, but that word Pathetic in his e mail,

that sticks in my claw........

Huh. Sorry to hear this is ending. Not good to have your opponent opening criticise your play. [:-] Sorry about that. I think we all know from your past encounters that you're a good opponent. Sounds like he just made a very unorthodox opening and got lucky with the tactics.

Whatever he did it sounds like it just matched perfectly by chance with your aggressive response. It could have gone very differently I'm sure, and those tactics aren't unbeatable, but it's hard to anticipate them when you know there is a timetable in the DEI.

I've played Miller several times. Without fail, he is thoughtful and polite. I'd want to hear from him, as I'd give him the benefit of the doubt due to my previous experiences with him.

Your comments sound a bit frantic, saying that to him "winning is everything." He's an honorable man who wouldn't stoop to unfairness to win. You say he "sailed his CVs close to Java" to unload their aircraft. I don't understand the complaint - he can stand off quite a ways to unload them, or move the aircraft in stages overland, hopping from airfield to airfield. Why is it an issue to sail close to Java?

Why is it an issue to counterinvade the Gilberts?

Why is it an issue to form large combat TFs to fight forward early?

Doesn't every player know that bombarding Clark Field is difficult since Bataan is mined?

I don't know you very well, but your posts come across as serious sour grapes. Your public maligning of Miller's character isn't consistent with your long-term contributions to the community.

I would just like to step in here before any name calling or any other silliness. My first action must be to apologise to Herbie, I called his defence of Palembang "Pathetic", which was a very poor choice of words and ultimately that's why he quit. I think he wanted a historic-ish game but as others have said on here I play an aggressive game as the Allies early on which I think he was unprepared for. I certainly don't have the attitude that "winning is everything". I like to mass my assets together as much as possible, strength in numbers and all that.

Can I just say in my defence I don't think I did anything "gamey", although in hindsight I do regret attacking Palembang. I hope Herbie accepts this olive branch and finds another opponent soon.

I have had the privilege to have played both Herbie and Miller.....and I'm happy to go into bat for both of them......
I have found both of them to be fun, fair and skilled opponents.
Sometimes games don't work... for anyone of a variety of reasons....I hope they can shake hands and move on...

I hope you can bury the hatchet and not in each others skulls. It sounds like a misunderstanding, and no one who has suffered a sudden setback enjoys gloating. A little salt in a wound or two is never pleasant.

Sorry to see this one end. A salutatory lesson to all JFBs on how difficult the opening stanzas can become. Dust yourself off Herbie and re group. Well done Miller.

yes, we were playing at cross purposes, and Miller got several very good breaks from my poor play and sheer bad luck
