It seems like your install is totally borked. Maybe you might download anew the original CSME 2.00, install it. Then download anew the 2.01 patch updater, and apply it also.

After doing that, if you have any more difficulties, you should zip up and post here all .log files in your Logs folder.

This sounds like a deeper OS systems issue. Over the years, a few players have reported rare instances of game install quirks, perhaps related to hardware issues, maybe due to file system corruption. When was the last time you did a scandisk?

I have been trying to download the game in my D Drive where I have all my games. I have just given it another go in my C Drive and it works!
Thanks for your suggestions and offers of support. I apologise for being such an amateur but at least I can now enjoy the game.

Your fix of installing to a different drive is exactly the desperate, last resort fix that worked for another fellow some years back. There is no explaining it.

I have a weird issue where it thinks I have the newest version installed. I cleaned registry of any entries. Trying to do a fresh install. WIN 11

Where is the setup program looking for my serial key and install location? I click uninstall nothing happens

If I try to install 2.31.2 it will install but when clicking exe gives me a missing dll error. and wont let me change the install directory.

One thing you could try is to install it in its default location and then copy and paste that entire folder to your new location, after you've updated it.

I have multiple installs using that same method, as I have different versions I like using with different mods for different purposes.

What I ended up doing was installing to only other windows machine I have then like you suggested copying that over to same directory on problem machine then installing 2.31.02.
