One in Europe would be easier actually...
smaller distances and you can hop on a train and get anywhere and back quickly

Very good idea!

I would prefer the Arnhem / Eindhoven / Nijmegen area.
Since "A bridge too far" is one of my favourite movies, I'd love to visit this area.

My dear friends,

j wish really organize a Spwaw Con in Europe!

If it's possible we can contact all the europen players, and, if possible, call also our american friends.

J can organize it only in Italy, but if there is someone that wish to organize in another european county, j agree.

So stand up european fan of Spwaw, and organize this convention !

Thank you Bernie. You are welcome in Europe !

A Dream Vacation In Europe...

...may be beyond my financial wherewithal, but I've always wanted to visit the battlefields I've read about. Let's see how 2004 goes here in the States, and go from there. Now, sometime in future, we could have simultaneous gatherings in the US and Europe, with a satellite video link between the two--now THAT would be the ultimate in coolness. Perchance to dream...

Both ideas have their pro's and con's, but I would prefer to wait for 2005. That way we could organize the event a bit better.
As Fallschirmjager already pointed out, Europe is pretty small so we could visit many places of interest in 2 or 3 days.
For example from Arnhem to Normandy it's abot 500 km, 5-6 hours by car. And from Normandy to the tank museum Saumur it's roughly the same distance.

J propose a Spwaw convention in Europe.

Places: Normandy;
Cassino (Italy);
Berlin;
Nijmegen (Holland);
Gela (Italy).

What you think ?

Sergio Castaldi:p

I am all for this! Nijmegen I can reach financially.. and maybe Normandy next year. Don't have the cash to go much further than that though. but a very good idea indeed! So how about it, European SPWAW fanz?

P.S. I have helped to setup meetings before here in Holland. So if we do it here, I am willing to help in the organisation!

Good idea! I'm interested, if I only can make the ends meet, financially. :)

As for locations, I'd really like to see Normandy, Holland and the Ardennes. Since the Ardennes sets the location for both major GE offensives in the west, it'd be interesting to see what it's like.

As for timeframe, 2005 sounds good to me. Then I can still dream about going stateside for 2004. :D

(the major uncertainty here is that I'm heading back to University now in September, which makes me without paychecks. My employer company is kind enough though to grant me the break though, so I'm not technically out of job).

I think Ardennes and Holland should be pretty easy to combine. From Arnhem to Bastogne it's 264 km.
And maybe Normandy and Saumur the following year.

But I think we should coordinate the european and the US SP:WAW-Cons, so people who are interested in both could visit them with some time between them. So the wallet has some chance to refill ;).

I would certainly love to be there. The old Kunel would greatly enjoy meeting my European hearty warriors face to face.

Who knows? I've learned that things can happen...good things as well as bad.

Either way, I wish you the best with it...WB

It was remaned Volgograd in 1961... but I think there's a petition up for renaming it Stalingrad, due to it's significant historical value. Btw, it was called Tsaritsyn before Stalin came about. :)

I wouldn't even know how to get there, but I suspect domestic flights from Moscow or S:t Petersburg is one/the only option.

Ah, didn't get that one. :p

I had half a plan of visiting S:t Petersburg this summer, from here it's not much different from going to Stockholm or Helsinki. Except that it's in Russia, ofcourse. Anyway, those plans have come to nothing.

I had a dorm neighbour a few years ago who worked summers at our embassy in Moscow. He had about the same thing to say as you about Russia.
