What do you put in your panzer corps for support?
As Xhoel explained, if you keep your corp HQ to support level 0 and all their higher HQ's are unlocked, SU's will go back to one level higher (Army HQ) before the next supply phase. This way, corps HQ always remain light, and that is true for panzer and also infantry corps. So you can put whatever SU you want in corps and this automatic movement doesn't cost any Admin points. If HQ's are locked, then it's another story, the SU's won't go back to higher HQ's and then yes, it will have adverse effects on supply of the corps HQ hosting them, panzer corps paying the worst cost, both in AP's and trucks because every SU becomes motorized in a panzer corp.
Whatever the power of the attacking units, the effects of SU's are always a welcomed addition in an attack. By example, artillery creates disruption BEFORE the attack, and disrupted elements are left behind in retreats and routs, so there are more casualties and/or prisonners. Also artillery preparations can bring down forts level before the attack and so on.
You can find more info on this in section 7.7.3 of the updated Manual v 2.5.5

Joelmars answer explains pretty well how SUs attached to Panzer Corps work. I just wanted to make 2 corrections:
1) SUs attached to Panzer Corps DO NOT become motorized when attached to a Panzer Corps, they only become motorized when attached to a Panzer/Motorized/Panzergrenadier division. For example a standard Pioneer Bn that is not motorized requires around 15 trucks. The same Bn attached to a Panzer division will become motorized and require around 110 trucks.
2) Artillery has very little effect on fort levels. I have tested this extensively and have come to that conclusion. Even the very heavy guns and the Siege Batteries have a very small effect on forts. What drives forts down is the end of Battle CV ratio and Engineer Values.
To answer your other questions:
-Where are your transports located? How far away from the unit are they?
-I don't think I have ever seen the capture of a city grant additional supplies or fuel to the capturing units. Maybe someone else can answer that.
No need to apologize for asking questions, we have all been there!
Cheers!

Ok, good nuance thanks, I had misunderstood the rule.

Seems like you disagree (along with EvK) with Crackaces on this

I won't argue, as my comment was from secondhand. Perso, I always use 150mm or 210mm howitzers on lev 1 or 2 forts and use 240mm and 310mm on level 3-4-5, but I never checked the exact effect they have.
What I know is that I wiped 2 lvl-4 forts that were on the 2 adjacent hexes of Sevastopol both in on first try, using 6 infantry divs, heavy howitzers and 4 pioneers SU's, but I didn't check who was responsible for that result.

I only disagree with their effects on fort levels. Otherwise I think artillery is quite important in any battle and I never launch or defend without it unless I have no other choice.
To actually test it's effects the enemy has to hold. If an enemy retreats, forts drop to 0 automatically. I ran a lot of tests on this an came to this conclusion. Furthermore you can see the poor effects of artillery on the Siege of Sevastopol that is going on in my game. I have 3 HQs with 6 Arty SUs each (many are very heavy guns, siege mortar battery was also present) and they have done nothing of value in regards to fort dropping.

I was lucky enough to occupy Moscow on turn 7 (July 31) in my first go. It was tenuous at best, and was a struggle to get infantry in place to secure the shoulders of the salient. At one point the Soviet AI reduced the corridor down to a single hex. But that would be the high water mark as Strauss' 9th Army and Model's 4th arrived to widen that corridor and push back on the encroaching enemy counters. Having made this lunge, I could go no further on that front before the snows fell.
I don't have a shot of the capture, but this is the start of the next turn.
Several turns later the AI almost cut the corridor
By the middle of September the infantry was in place and had opened out the salient. Moscow was secure.

Sorry for those oversized screens. I can remove them if needed. Have no time to re-do them at the mo.
