What kind of Vietnam game was it? Scale? Any recollections?

I played solo the Avalon Hill Vietnam 1965-75 board game when I was much younger and found its mechanics were really good though some players may find it a bit frustrating given how elusive the VC were and the ARVN being hamstrung by political instability and hopeless leadership.
I do miss a PC game of similar type on such a big scale (It took me hundreds of hours for a campaign)
Campaign Series Vietnam is obviously a very different scale but the love being put into it is evident to see.
Looking forward to it.

Theres several TOAW IV Vietnam scenarios on that scale that are quite good......

Hi
Yes I have TOAW 4 but the boardgame modelled the political side much better imho and the game was not simply a combat simulation.

Yes, scale is much different indeed.
I am hoping that the "A Week in..." Scenarios will provide some longer playing experiences, where it takes quite awhile to complete the "campaign", as the scenario will be 500 turns and cover 7 days.
The TOAW scenarios that Stephane created are excellent.

Thanks Jason
Yes they sound like something I can get my teeth into !
Dont get me wrong the TOAW scenarios provide a good challenge militarily ....particularly when playing the US/ARVN in pbem but I do enjoy the mechanics revolving around inactive ARVN Divisions and coups for example in the boardgame that understandably cannot be modelled in TOAW4.

Doing good Randy thanks for asking,
All is well here. Been busy mostly with the Campaign Series. Was in a couple of tourneys over the last year at the blitz, had a lot of fun too!
Just waiting on Vietnam. From what I've have seen so far on the forums it will be an awesome game for sure!!
Every once in a while I get over to Tigers on the Hunt. Kind of quiet there lately though.
Time for Trumpets? Don't know much about that one but I am looking forward to Valor and Victory.
Take care!!

i first really started playing wargames in Jacksonville, NC while i was stationed at Geiger for
nearly 3 years. had a club that met every Tuesday night in the S-3 offices.
GMT is re-releasing Victory Games Vietnam
https://www.gmtgames.com/p-911-vietnam- ... ition.aspx
may have to buy that.
A time for trumpets is a monster. i can't even set it up fully...2 maps wipe out my
biggest table. lol.

Hey Randy, thanks for the link!!
I'll have to look at that my friend, it looks very interesting!!
Vietnam was a totally different war than the United states troops had ever experienced until that point.
Sadly there is not too much on it unfortunately from a game standpoint with computers.
I do have Squad Battles Tour of Duty which is a pretty good game, kind of like Squad Leader + in Vietnam.
Looking forward for Campaign Series Vietnam on the platoon level for sure![:D]
