I think one very important thing to keep in mind is the speed of modern CPUs, not to mention Video Cards.

The minimum specs for WitP:AE are for a 500 MHz processor and the recommended is for a 1 GHz processor. Most modern
CPUs are at least 2.8 GHz with many much faster.

Looking at the GPU, the minimum is 8MB video graphics card 16 bit color
and the recommended is the same. Again we are way past that even on integrated graphics that some are still
using.

So I would suggest that people use -cpu2 and that should run the game as fast as you can with good game load times.
I think that not using just 1 core on an Intel Processor runs into some of those delay problems in loading.
I upgraded my computer 2.5 years ago and my old ran the game just fine using a -cpu2 switch.

One thing I have found is that not using the -dd_sw switch causes long delays in night time operations,
coast watchers, bombardments, surface combat, etc. My system is plenty fast enough to do the direct draw in software with no problems.

I'd agree with that. I ran a few "load game" tests with different switches, and it was maybe a 30 second time difference between none and several. In game, the effect wasn't even noticeable. You'll see far more impact from changing things like message delays or turning search arcs on/off.

So yes, whether the game runs on 6 cores or 1 isn't a big deal - modern systems will max out this old code either way. That said, running the game on something other than CPU1 is beneficial (and thus the player is advised to use the -cpu3 or -cpu4 switches, even -cpu2), but otherwise not worth worrying about. If I can "bump" this.... I followed Trugrit's advice and I set my switches same as Trugrit but add the PX and PY resolution for my desktop and it only runs in a window about 2/3rd of my laptop screen. Fooling with the resolutions, it always ends up the same size window. I am stumped. The game DOES run fine, just in a too small window.

Using SeaBee, I enter the same values but it generates a shortcut that send me to a black screen and I have to CTRL ALT DELETE out of it to desktop.

ANy advice?

Instead of using -px and -py try using -pxf and -pyf

I'd stick with 26b as 27b had a lot of issues that will be addressed or modified in the latest build.

I just got a new computer first will this work on windows 11?
second if it does do I still have to buy it again ( one purchase per hard drive?) deal.

The CD-ROM version of this game I purchased back in 2009 installed on Windows 11 just fine. Fortunately, I had still had a portable optical drive to do it with. Whatever way you bought the game originally there should be a downloadable file of it on your My Page account you can install on your new computer. A lot of people here have multiple installs of this game on one computer, so it's not a one purchase per hard drive situation. I don't think Matrix is quite like Adobe yet where it feels like they want you to keep buying what you thought you already owned.

Note you can only install once. All the others are copies of that install patched which ever way you want.

Thanks again I thought it was just a patch all seemed to go well have not launched the game yet but it looks good.
