Matrix and Vic seem to have figured it out: Release the game slightly early on Matrix to a loyal crowd, polish it with constructive criticism missed in beta, then unleash it on Steam in a state where it will get good reviews. Why mess with the formula? I'll buy a title through Matrix and then get the Steam key when it comes out since it's more convenient to manage the collection on Steam.
