I am surprised that they have not yet started on the latitude effect on the food production not to mention the length of the day for combat purposes. [8|]

There will always be unhappy people. From what I'm gathering German capabilities are more historical (as it should be). Leningrad was *always* captured in the first iteration of the game, now it seems the Wehrmacht might fail (as it should be). With all due respect but I understand this -and other obstacles courtesy of prosaic logistics- is a bitter pill to swallow for the Wehrmacht fanboys.

That's where modders should step in and deliver an Andy Mac's nasty mod (a Japanese on mega steroids mod in AE, for those who don't know the game).

Meanwhile they are now in "Discovery Channel" territory.

I never knew that a debate about the impact of climate on the quality of grass as food for horses could be so interesting. An informed opinion on the matter requires an unusually high level of knowledge it would seem. [:D]

Maybe I should throw that into the discussion . . . [:-]

Since today is April, 1st, I got an idea! Let's airdrop Bob down there. Next, we start a thread about "OOBs in Eastern Front Scenarios for TOAW4 and their impact on realism". Then we run all back here and watch what happens from afar... [8D]

please don't ... I'm a mod in that forum and it would be really cruel [;)]

But I'm with RangerJoe, its time to talk latitude, crop patterns and the impact on the biomass of domesticated animals (and the vagaries of Soviet agriculture)

edit - actually the game does model length of day for setting the effectiveness of air interdiction missions (don't say it skimps on the details)

We should encourage Bob to go over there! [:D]

But what I meant as far as the latitude and crops, more daylight means more growing time so the grass will grow more, hence more grass for the horses to eat as they are pulling wagon loads of heavy ammunition. You know, the grass that grows on the roads for the horses to eat as they are working. [8|]

Ah, but they did skimp on details. Where are the vodka rules? Russians can't exist without vodka. It's not natural.

Maybe that is what the Germans referred to as the Russian "Korn" alcohol beverage.

I don't know anything about it and I don't have time to learn. But if I were evaluating it I wouldn't be asking about minutia. I'd be asking about results. Was there a full playtest by experts prior to launch? And where is that AAR?

I think I'm with Curtis here. AARs or it isn't real :)

I'm likely going to be watching this, but this is a 1 year later purchase if ever.

They boasted a lot about the new "weather system". My question is: is it stacked so that the Germans get a "superwinter" at the end of the first year? Because, if "no, it can happen but it is a possibility among many" then the Russians can only pray. But if "yes, no matter what, the first winter is a killer" then the Germans start with a key knowledge they couldn't possibly have in real life.

Also, I guess that Guderian will not be sacked if the Germans do retreat at the end of 1941 before the superwinter (unless they are really winning), form a sane line of defense against the Siberians' counterattack and hope for a better 1942. I.e. In both cases the Russians get the short stick.

Yes, but the crucial point was the annihilation of the Japanese naval air personnel.

This is somewhat of a misconception of the battle. While Japan did lose quite a number of mechanics, their pilot losses weren't as much as many think. According to Shattered Sword, pilot losses were in the neighborhood of about 25%. Not insignificant, but certainly not a catastrophe.

War in the Pacific Admiral Edition remake. I'got the game 9 years ago and like the graphics but more modern interface and command structure would be excellent.

Numbers vary but in excess of 200 pilots lost. 25% losses is not trivial and considering how urgently replacements were needed placing inexperienced pilots out there pressured the remaining experienced pilots. The loss of four carriers, all the aircraft and a large number of pilots...we all know the end to that story.

This was added:

3. Previously Undocumented Rule (was already in 1.00) - Axis units in heavy snow from December 1941 to March 1942 have their defensive CV modified as follows:
Dec 1941 - /2
Jan 1942 - /1.5
Feb 1942 - /1.33
This is reflected in the CV values shown on the map. In addition, once in combat, there are admin and land combat rating checks made. For each failed check, the defense value is modified an additional time. So a unit in Jan 1942 in heavy snow can have its CV divided by 1.5 up to 3 times if it fails both checks.

WITE 2 replaces WITW as the greatest computer wargame ever made.

Everyone who loves wargames should buy it and be thankful it even exists.

We need more of these games and the only way to ensure that is to buy the game.
