I think the older folks and the older war gamers do the most with forums. I frequent Discord, but I still go to Matrix, Shrapnel, TWS, GameSquad, ConsimWorld and The Blitz for forum reading.

I think the new crowd uses Discord, Twitch and whatever the next new shinny thing is.

Most of the forums I go to, you can post a paragraph or two and folks will read and engage with the dialog. The new crowds seem to like Discord and one or two sentence postings until the wind blows...

I don't use but Steam devs use Discord to refine their games -a bit like focus group in beta testing-

For traditional forum I think it should be interesting to read historical articles or ideas about future games, more than 1 or 2 sentence. Chat like forums can also be in whatsup groups.

Lava, I had similar issue -
I opened a ticket and the tech types fixed it.

I can't login to support. I can only log onto the forum.

Think I joined in 2003.

Tried to PM Erik, but his inbox was full.

You can try to PM another moderator if you can't get through to support nor Erik. With the weekend, it may have to wait until next week. But Erik does check in here occasionally.

I lurk on the forum daily and spend most of my time catching up on threads for games I have or would like to get.
Of course, there are other forums that I visit also, so I end up splitting time across other boards as well.

Are we really taking attendance here?

Snow White and the 6 dwarfs are looking for another character.[:)] Have a nice day Orm, can't hide all that talent, it would be missed if it were not there.[;)]
Thank you. Always nice to be appreciated.

However, if I were to join an ensemble it would need to hugely beneficial to me. I suppose that makes me a sell-out. But I am not cheap. At least in my humble opinion.

Don't contact Erik.
Instead send us a email to support@slitherine.co.uk. We will sort the account issue.

You're not cheap. But are you easy?

No, those asterisks were there when you posted earlier. You should be able to edit your name, if you like.

AGEOD forums are even more dead
About 5 or so years ago I bought TEAW then went to the AGEOD forum, there was activity then, but visibly it was like going into a cave, black background, to me making it hard to read the colored text, being new to the game wanted to read up on what was there to learn about the game, did not care for the forum and shortly after that decided that game style was not for me and has been on the shelf ever since. REVIEW: Lousy forum killed the game imho. MATRIX: Good AGEOD: Bad

(I think the clientele here are the best) [;)]

Armored Brigade forums seems to be dead, sigh. I guess it's because support for the game sort of ended and they are working on the sequel.

I have 30 years of experience in forums, many of them as a moderator. I've been seeing a significant drop in forum engagement for a long time, not to mention quality content. Of course, there are always exceptions, but the trend is what it is.
I think it's mostly about everything being in one place and integrated image upload. Like when for example browsing Tumblr, I follow, like 100 active blogs, ranging from personal, through military history, hobby blogs, artist blogs, blogs dedicated to artists of the past, political blogs, etc.
To be honest, the amount of quality posting is similar or greater than on forums. Too bad that lots of hobbyists prefer Instagram despite that it's inferior in almost every aspect.

Forums are usually limited by amount of active users. Like if one has one place for many interests, there are always active people quality-posting and there's a greater user retention.

I've seen AGEod games criticized by younger players about UI or lack of tutorial but it is the first time I've heard about forum colors. [:D]

Some of their games have sub forums dedicated to history for that game "RUS History club / Discussions historiques sur la Guerre Civile Russe" and "AJE History club / Discussions historiques sur les Romains", RoP History Club and such. How can it it bad.

Besides in the past there were many good historical and a bit politics discussion about ACW. For a wargamer Ageod games are goooood not bad..

Games forums depend a lot on content. Whether that is a new game, old game, game in work, etc.

Sure a lot of that content has gotta be provided by the company to keep people coming back. But one shouldn't underestimate the content that it's users provide as well. Great content includes stuff like AAR's and mods.

One of the things missing here is the ability to post videos. It just isn't the same posting a link and posting the actual video that people can watch.

For the last few years I have been pretty stuck into Games-Labs games such as the Ultimate General Civil War and Ultimate Admiral Age of Sail. I have 109 videos on my channel. These videos follow my campaigns and include tutorials (which are actually quite popular). Yea, I'm not a pro at it and only do it for fun. But it is amazing how many hits the threads get when I post them on a forum.

Matrix really needs to add YouTube videos to the functionality of the forum.
