June 1941
More staff at the Press office of the Axis armed forces are shot as it seems that any proof of June 6 operations are lost.
The most exciting thing that happened I think is that the Ultimate HQ (codename Wife) called and in shock I managed to press end turn at the same time as I was answering the phone I was like 75% done with the turn but Army group Center stood completely still. Sure I got one turn of rest but yea it had consequences unfortunately.
And then to make it worse on the June 20 turn partisans cut the supply to army group Center so yes not the best start of Barbarossa for sure. Lost 3 turns rain, wife and partisans resulting, as you will see, in not the best outcome I have ever had thats for sure but of course not taking anything away from the very good defense of Digital Stalin ie Nirosi.
In the South my mech units are doing their job and taking Kiev crossing the Dnepr and advance North to hopefully make a pocket and then advance towards Moscow. Georg von Küchler commander of army group South is screaming on the phone to Commander of Army group Center Kesselring complaining about the slow speed of AGC.

Kesselring commander of AGC can just look at the map and sigh and take the abuse the commander of AGS throws at him, knowing full well he will never be able to close any pocket any time soon. Every unit is way behind schedule.

In the North I did not have that much hope of doing anything spectacular either with only 2 mech units already getting tired and not enough infantry.

The only good news were at sea where to specialised naval air arm of the Italian airforce made short work of the Soviet Baltic fleet. I dont think I have ever seen the Soviet fleet go down so fast as in this game.
Some bad news were that I lost a sub I dont quite remeber how but I think it was a bombing raid on my sub base in France.

Feeling a little bid despondent over how things were going I felt I could not take Moscow so I sent some mech units north in the hope of maybe get Leningrad at least. On the way there I managed to create another small pocket but those have not been game changing in any way.

This is how close my digital soldiers got to close a not game winning but at least making Stalin shake in his boots pocket but because of the sluggishness of the AGC advance I fail.

And in the South with all resources going north the progress is very slow.

I must say that I remembered been very scared at that turn's opening! I had clearly underestimated the Italians.... (and as usual, Axis capacity to drive deep). I now know that Moscow (and maybe the game) was saved by MM's wife

This is not Moscow, this is Bryansk. This is funny how I see the east front wrong now...
I don't regret my purchase of a Peter map projection atlas.
Hopefully we will have a correct map in the next next patch.

I will tell her she lost me the war and throw myself on my sword. Suitably epic

I am no expert on these different kind of map projections. Is the number of hexes the same just everything moved around?
If there are more hexes I guess there could be problems with counter density but otherwise I really like your version. Well done!

I did not remember this but it seems I did manage to get a pocket after all but it is much smaller

. The state of the mechanized forces are not good and 5 hexes away from Moscow. Can I still make it?
Nirosi used his airforce nicely over the summer causing a lot of interdictions. Not for free though I think at the end of the summer Soviet airforce was down to a strength of 95ish.

And in the south my very few forces now outnumbered by the Soviets try to advance.
Seems I forgot to take a shot of the north but I assume I eliminated the pocket and continued my advance on Leningrad.

The slug towards Leningrad continue. My front inf corps and the mech units in pretty good shape. I think I might make it well since I write this in the future I know what happened

but I remember thinking it could be done.

In the center as you can see hordes of Soviets and my units not very strong so I basically give up on Moscow.
I decide to try and clear the rail line Vitebsk to Rhzev, set up winter lines and I sent the Italian expeditionary force south to see if they can accomplish something there.

In the south there are not that many Soviets I hope the presence of the Italians might make Stalin cautious and retreat to Kharkov Stalino line.

Moving away from the east front. The UK launch an invasion of Sicily. More heads roll now in the Italian coastal defense department (lots of headrolling in dictatorships

). After mission accomplished in the Baltic I forgot to bring back the Italian airunits so there was nothing stopping the invasion force.
I did not take any more screen shots here but in the end it did not end well for the UK forces. One more Uk unit invaded the southern port of Sicily. I scambled for some units and I sent my mech unit in Africa and a tired mech unit from the eastern front together with some Italians we had enough forces to persuade the UK to retreat with one unit and the other one stayed a bit too long and had to walk into a Italian pow camp.
