Here's another review of Korsun Pocket. A Finnish game mag called Pelit gave KP a score of 85 points (out of 100 points max).
The reviewer's summary (translated by Yours Truly): Recommended for hex-strategy fans. PROS: Historic accuracy, Challenging AI, Pretty good looking for a strategy game. CONS: Too much like a spreadsheet, Really weird game interface, Would have been the best game in the world in 1985.

Clearly the reviewer has already forgotten what kind of games were around for the PC in 1995, even!
Let's all fresh up our memories by remembering that the
originial Steel Panthers made its' debut in 1995.
Quake was released in Q2 1996! We sure have come a long way the past 7 years.

The review is there alright but I can't understand it. Lots of (IMHO) baseless complaints from someone who supposedly plays these games. His opinions are not in line with my opinion and what I read here about the pros and cons (he actually says that his opinions are not in line with what he reads, in the text). And the text has some contradictions too. I don't think I can agree one bit of that review. And reading the actual the text, I can't imagine why KP scored so well anyway.
Looks like somebody woke up with a wrong foot, got tired of playing strategy games, got frustrated by the general lameness trend of new games and expected something else. He is like he has these counless grand new ideas for these games but can't mention any.

I read it too on my way to do some shopping. I dont buy the magazine just read it in the shop.
I think 85 is really good but the guy doing the review clearly isnt logical with his arguments.

His opinions are
not in line with my opinions either (except maybe for the overall score). I don't understand half of the reviewer's statements, most are not consistent with his summary at all, and there are few plain inaccuracies. It is mostly reviewer babble - trying to sound understanding (if that's the right word, knowledgeable might be better) and cool. However, he gave the game 85 points, which is not a bad score, especially for a hex-based strategy game these days. I just made a quick post of the review here, I guess I should have commented on it. Oh well.

Heh, I was wondering, if I should post about that review here, but you got it first. I was a bit appalled by the review. I consider the Pelit magazine to give out pretty well done reviews, usually, but this one had me almost mailing the editor, almost

. I can understand the score and the fact that the reviewer wasn't so excited but I cannot stand illogical, incomprehensible argumentation.

This is an excellent game and I am glad I had not given up on Matrix. What I like is the clean interface. I do not go to sleep trying to remember obscure commands etc. I also like the graphics and the density of information on the map. It seems to play semi-realistically. I would like more info on what is known about the armaments of the different units. Bakke's unit was a Tiger-equipped unit right? What are the SU units equipped with? etc. The main thing is that this game is fun to play. That is not true about a large percentage of new games. Steel Panthers was fun to play also. I hope this system can be adapted to a wide variety of operational WWII situations! Very good job SSG and Matrix!
