As i advanced further from my depots, i noticed that my transit pool started to shrink. It make me think that units consume freight to replace one tanks with others. If it is a case then it is extremely bad to have such swapping mechanism that swaps similar tanks for no reason. Not only it bloats the transit pool but also wastes supplies!

This problem still seems to exist and to need a fix. In Caedus vs David game (with OB 2.0 new patch) which has made it to 1943, Soviets have thousands of medium tanks stuck in the transit pool.

@Joel. Beethoven is referring to the 1941 no early end campaign by me (CaedusS) vs. Robi151. It's a server game, feel free to take a look.

I downloaded the game that is up to October 1943, with Berlin surrounded. This isn't the best game to use to try to analyze this. The Soviet Army is huge, with over 8 million men on map. This is pushing the logistics system to it's max (the rails in Ukraine are mostly still damaged). I see there are 4000 medium tanks in the transit pool and 600 in the active pool (although only 1100 in transit and 400 in the active pool are "in production" tanks). I can't really tell if the churn is due to the bad logistics causing lots of tanks to go back each turn, or something else in the replacement system causing a problem. I can say that given the logistics situation, it's not at all surprising that the Soviets would have a hard time fielding such a large army and more tanks. Unless someone can give us a clue on what they see going wrong I don't see how to improve this. I realize I don't think we have visibility on where the in transport tanks are coming from.

maybe look in the event log if some tank switcheroo is reported there

I see the t-34 1942 goes out of production in July 43, but the TOE for many units still calls for the 42 version until later 43. Even so, at some point lots of 1943s get into various units, probably because the 1942 is out of production and it's numbers decline while the 1943s are getting built every turn.

I ran the game through another turn and I did find a case where some Shermans wanted T-34 1942s in their TOE slot, and switched out for 1942s, then switched out to 1943s, then switched out to Valintine IIIs. Each time, it looks like it was reacting to the pool reaching 0 for the tank it had, so found something else (except for the first case where there were some Shermans in the pool, but the TOE was calling for 1942s). If these were going to the transit pool as they swapped out, then this kind of thing might be the culprit. That said, it doesn't mean we can change this in a way that doesn't mean something else won't come out working in an undesirable way. At least I have something I can discuss with the programmers.

Why even does undamaged equipment go into the transit pool in the first place and not into the active pool?
