QUESTION ABOUT REPLACING LEADERS IN WIE II

ARE THE VICTORY POINTS "LOST" REPLACING LEADERS BASICALLY A TEMPORARY REDUCTION IN VICTOR POINTS FOR THAT TURN, AND DON'T AFFECT VICTORY POINTS NEXT TURN (I.E., BACK TO JUST CITIES BEING FACTORED IN)

RECOMMENDATION

I recommend there are 4 levels of Russian/German RR usage:

1) Green : Little utilization

2) Yellow : Medium utilization

3) Red : High utilization

4) Blue : RR capacity imminent (don't move any more factories)

Does replacing a leader now cost both APs as well as VPs (victory points)?
No just APs

Yes there will be community members reading your posts in your AAR and I guess its fine to ask questions in the AAR but your most likely to get a reply in your AAR about the actual match rather than questions on game mechanics or suggestions.
May I suggest posting any questions in the general discussion section particularly the " quick questions thread " and ideas in the suggestion thread, the DEVS will more than likely see any suggestions there than in your AAR.

Now I will ask you a question about this game

Is this game played with sudden death options on ? you seem to going pretty well in your Axis moves in the north and south but at turn 7 in the centre the Red Army still holds Smolensk.

RECOMMENDATION

When look to move air units, survey RR line also for army combat units:
double lines must be repaired ASAP. This means the independent RR repair units need to be manually moved back to the rear areas sometimes!

Double Rail lines are the high priority and you will have to move the RR units manually, but you can attach smaller rail repair units to army's and corps which will move independently.

I attach these units to my ArmeeKorps and to the rail section that I want repaired first.

Also just to add to my earlier view of attaching small units to armies and corps, attaching to armies are fine but what will happen is the rail units for example will repair rail hexes in Lithuanian again fine but if 18th Armee component ArmeeKorps are in Latvia that's where you want the minor rail repairs to be following the Corps, of course it's no certainty but it seems to more or less work for me.

Hey Reginald don't feel discouraged I lurk these forums a lot and have been following, keep it up.

Now I am not a WITE2 blackbelt by no stretch, but I try to imitate what the "greats" do on here; to that end let me address some points you brought up:
ReginaldBednar2 wrote: Sat Oct 17, 2026 10:23 pm End of German Turn 4: July 13, 1941

I Corps attacks toward port of Parnu. 4th Panzer Group panzers driver toward Pskov River Line, but terrain is poor and slows seem down. Get within four hexes of line.

RR repair up to Minsk from NW RR line. Both 3rd and 2nd Panzer Group panzers smash line past Minsk and drive toward The Land Bridge and Mogliev (5 hexes away). Problem is panzers for both are now highly fatigued and will need to rest next turn. Infantry seals up northern exists from Pripyat Marshes. Slow advance to minimize fatigue on western side of Marshes.

In southern sector, Rovno and Proskurov fall as all panzers drive in a wedge toward Kiev along the two RR lines to the city. 17th Army just advances. Moving past Prut River to Dnestr River. Still a long way from Odessa; RR repair toward the city.

IMPORTANT LESSONS

1) Primary goals have been identified (Pskov (Leningrad), Mogliev (Moscow),
Kiev (Ukraine industrial might), and Odessa (big port).

2) Expedite RR repair towards those paths.

3) Best tactic for limited Russian army withdrawals seems to be to smash a
huge sector in the line and forego major encirclements.

4) Move up Luftwaffe manually (especially getting recon units within
range of likely)

5) Don't keep advancing infantry as maximum rate (will quickly get high
fatigue and low attack factors

6) Establish depots manually where RR capacity exceeds 1, especially near
airfields of size 2+

7) Use Luftwaffe AI assist after moving aircraft groups

1) Industry unfortunately doesn't play as big of a role as it should in real life, it will be evacuated and up again in weeks.

2) You can even double up FBD units on your most important axis of advance.

3) Not wrong per se but in 41 you must destroy as much Russian manpower as possible, if you can keep them at 2.5m or below this is manageable for Axis; 2m and under will cripple Red Army.

5) Yes and no. Rotate your advancing infantry with rested ones. Read the section in the manual about Administrative Movement. TLDR leaving a few units on previously captured hexes will allow them to recover CPP faster. In 41 the name of the game is to seize important territory ASAP.

6) Having them on big airfields is nice but priority is to get them as close to the front as possible. Prioritize double rails, big railyards and getting the lead railhead within 30 hexes of your most advanced units.

7) To each his own but AI assist will do silly things sometimes (send Stukas to perform naval patrol, instead of sending level bombers with mines for instance). I find it best to manually move/manage Luftwaffe. Keep level bombers close to starting territory in 41 as they are freight hogs, only advance recon and fighters first, along with a few tactical/fighterbomber aircraft.

Also replacing a leader just costs APs not VPs

yeah, same here! :) Reginald, your AAR is intersting and easy to follow, thank you. as for your questions and recommendations -
sure, it's your AAR but some of them(questions?) could do a tour in the Quick Questions Thread for sure!

here's the link: https://forums.matrixgames.com/viewtopic.php?t=365472 - the whole thread is gold, just put your queries at the end and see what happens. ;)

cheers!

QUESTIONS BEING ANSWERED AS I PLAY

THERE IS A TYPO USED WHEN REPLACING LEADERS; NOT VICTORY POINTS ARE ACTUALLY INVOLVED, AND THUS SHOULD NOT (AND DOES NOT) SHOW UP IN THE MANUAL.

THIS IS A LABEL BUG: "AP" AND NOT "VP"

THIS CAUSED ALL THE CONFUSION.

AP UTILIZATION

AP'S ARE VERY VALUABLE:

1) LEADER REPLACEMENT (DOES NOT ACTUALLY COST VICTORY POINTS)

2) DEPOT CONSTRUCTION

3) FORTIFIED UNIT CONSTRUCTION

4) NEW UNIT BUILD (RUSSIAN PLAYER ONLY)

PRIORITIES CHANGE WITH TIME

RUSSIAN INDUSTRY CONCENTRATIONS

1. KV TANK CONSTRUCTION (LENINGRAD)

2. T-34 TANK CONSTRUCTION (KHARKOV)

3. ARMAMENTS (TULA)

ALSO, FACTORY RELOCATION TAKES RR TRANSPORTATION (FINITE), AND THE AI AUTOMATICALLY PREVENTS A LOT OF HI/SMALLER ARMAMENTS FROM BEING MOVED WHEN DESIRED BY THE PLAYER

RR PRIORTY ALLOCATION

1. MOVING COMBAT TROOPS (RUSSIAN ARMY WILL TAKE MASSIVE LOSSES.)

2. MOVING FACTORIES (PRIORITY BASIS)

3. DEFAULT USE TO MOVE SUPPLIES

End of Russian Turn 8: August 10, 1941

Stragegically, trying to straighten out lines as much as possible to use troops more efficiently in depth.

Moving down east bank of Lake Peipus (Wehrmacht panzers) forced the abandonment of the entire Narva funnel!

Battle for Smolensk and its suburbs next turn. Biggest problem now for Russia is not being able to replace leaders fast enough (AP's are in high demand for depot/airfield building for retreating and building new units). The good news is that replacing units only cost AP's (like for WIE), and not victory points. Finally out of the Pripyat Marshes.

Just defending Kiev, rest of units that are nearby moved across Dnepr River. Moved 25 Armaments in Tula this turn. Battle for Nikolaev next turn.

SUGGESTION FOR AVOIDING MISFILING PICTURES FOR TURN UPDATES

A PROBLEM EXISTS WHEN THE FORUM KICKS YOU OFF BECAUSE YOU HAVE NOT RESPONDED IN A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF TIME, TO SAVE BANDWIDTH (TIME HOGGING). HOWEVER, WHEN YOU HIT THE FORUM BUTTON TO GET BACK IN, IT DOES NOT NECESARILY TAKE YOU TO THE LAST POST AREA. THIS IS VERY INEFFICIENT AS JUST DEMONSTRATED CONCLUSIVELY.

End of German Turn 9: August 17, 1941

Tallinn falls and moving through Narva River Line. Infantry advance up eastern shore of Lake Peipus. Both panzer corps move up western rail line to Leningrad. 16th Army main objective is supporting (conducting) attack toward Novgorod.

Smolensk falls with one panzer corps resting.

Kiev and Odessa fell; approaching Cherkassy.

It is important to advance up to major rivers if possible since they can cost a lot of movement points to assault over.
