Agreed. Ofcourse I'm anxious as h*ll to get to play 8.0 but I can wait, it's worth it. The wait has been made so much easier by the advent of H2Hfr, which really has made me oversee the shortcomings of 7.1.

Still, as you say Silencer, I'm just happy there's development at all! This
is a free game and at that one of the best games around! Ever since I stumbled upon SPWaW three years ago it's been a constant part of my gaming. NO other game has achieved that.

Given that I'm reading that v8.0 will seemingly involve not just improved OOBs, but 'different' OOBs - so as to support MCSE, will this not introduce a new level of non-compatability with existing scenarios?
If for example an effort was made to ensure that all the weapons shared in different OOBs had the same characteristics this would be a transparent improvement (for example in H2Hfr the Panzerschreck has a max range of 28 in the German OOB and of 40 in the US OOB - picked that as an example because I just recently noticed it.)
However, if unit and formation slot numbers are moved around, added or deleted (perhaps in support of MCSE), then we are back to needing to revise all older scenarios to the v8.0 standard. Wild Bill is currently posting updated scenarios, updated to v7+ I think. Will he and all other authors have to do the same? As we eventually move into CL sometime in the future, or not, this question may become moot, but I think all scenarios should be posed with a version identifier so due to OOB changes we don't have to invest hours in playing out an interesting scenario only to be faced with a charge of assault rafts coming through the woods blazing away with flamethrowers and 203mm howitzers.

Akmatov, the 8.0 does not have 'different' oob versions. It is backwards compatible with 7.1. It has oob bugfixes, lots of oob tweaking, some new stuff, some new graphics.
There is no real need to rewrite 7.1 scens, but WB has made so many scens that he has plenty to do updating pre-7.1 scens

. Ok, you *may* encounter an oddity or two when you play an old scen with 8.0 but that should be pretty rare...you know, typos may creep even into the 8.0

Exactly chief! He was attracted to some honey on the mail buoy left by sea bees and that made him easy to catch. It's cold out though, so I sent a couple of Marines down to engineering for a bucket of steam to put in the box with him for warmth. They're not back yet though...

I found he keeps himself (sea-bat) clean with prop wash. We found it easier to keep him around by braiding a leash from shore line.
The girls liked him a lot in the Dundalk bars, made them easy pickups. Those bars had the biggest crabs in Bawlmoor.

I think one of the greatest things about SPWAW's OOB's being open to modification and easily modified (heck, having the editting tools with the distribution!) is that it allows the producer to essentially let the fans do research and tests. That is, the official development team may have been split on an issue, or kinda'
figured that something wouldn't quite work out well, but didn't have time to test it. Well, the players can themselves look into these things. Some paths the dev-team didn't go down can be gone down. Some things that take a good long-term playing can be researched... eg, the 88mm FlaK being able to fire on the move. Or another example being machineguns--some people think they should be able to fire on the move, others think they oughtn't. Well, H2H has allowed us to test this on a wide scale. Now that this broad-based testing has gone on, 8.0 OOB's have benefitted not just from player input, but essentially from the input of a second development team--one whom you can be assured that the data is compatible with your system.
I can't wait 'till 8.0 comes out. My computer blew up, I need to format and reinstall everything, so I don't have my MCSE Tester 8.0's... I dunno what's worse, waiting for 8.0 or having it, then having to wait for it.

Disclaimer: I am not now nor ever have been a real Marine, but I play one in SPWaW. However, a notional Seabat Demo Team was proposed, but too many would get them confused with Navy Seabees. Therefore, we put them in the new Kasparian OOB, which was also left out of the 8.0 upgrade. Their country sank. (This OOB was constructed in memory of a late great American comedian, so it obviously never existed. Who am I referring to?)

Nope, sorry, Chief. The guy I was referring to came around a couple of generations later--it was Andy Kaufman, whose Eastern Euopean character came from the mythical Kaspar. Bernie: me, smoke Seabat guano? I thought it was Kasparian hash.
