FRAG Most of your points are valid..., but I believe while the Japanese had the
Marshals before the war, the Gilberts were British.
Sorry, I'm jumping a couple of turns into the game. Here's the opening turn for Japan ... note the Fast Transport TF I have highlited that is going to snag Makin Atoll. Tarawa Atoll right below it has a size 3 airfield (overbuild capable to 6) just waiting to be gobbled up and stocked with Betty's and Mavis's.
Getting supply there for Japan is far easier then getting supply past there for the USA.
These atolls are graphically HUGE - shouldn't they be just a tiny bits of land in the ocean?
Also, I hated original coral reef graphics - too thick and pain on the eyes. So I use modified map with coral reefs toned down significantly.
I see you got the location of Nauru right this time [8D] One of my favorite insignificant moot complaints in UV is that Nauru is not really Nauru (totally insignificant, since in UV its 0/0 base and out of the way of the campaign anyway).

Hi, We need to work on understanding the word "Abstract" We can't be taking everything too serious. All base icons are the same size.

Yea, but there is something about seeing those tiny tiny tiny tiny dots on (real) Pacific ocean maps, like in Encarta or National Geographic maps - makes you realize just how immense the ocean is.
On the above screenshots some atolls seem as if they're like, 30 miles accross (half the hex).
OK, definitely not something to lose the sleep about, but if anyone cares I'd vote for smaller dots on map (where applicable) and definitely coral reef graphics toned down (as compared to UV).

Let's just hope that somebody steps up like Rowlf did and creates some options. Those atolls are bigger than you think, Oleg, most of them spill out beyond the borders of the hex, making them 70-80-90 miles across. Worse, they all have a central island. That's atypical of atolls, of course.
But who am I to complain? I just wanna play the d@mned game, already.

Ahhh... that would be fantastic... I use Rowlf's maps and they are so beautiful... [&o]
God knows what that guy is doing now and where is he... his map artwork would be fantastic for WitP... <sigh>

I’ve already made some exercises with WitP map screenshots, although these were jpegs… and I think I can rework WitP map using Rowlf’s pattern, map won’t be geographically accurate, but in the same time, will be less abstract than original one. Given the size of map, dozen UV maps in fact, I suppose I’ll need a companion, anyone who can waste 20-30 minutes a day and have Photoshop 6 with Bizzanto filters installed.

I saw your changes for Japanese planes in UV and those were very very good indeed!
If you can, possibly, follow the Rowlf’s pattern for maps (from his woirk in UV to new WitP once released) that would be fantastic!!!

Thanks… but where did you see it? I’ve never posted this mod.

I will, although it won’t be exactly the same pattern, I’ve reworked Rowlf map in order to make it more brighter and with less poisoned colors. and besides there are so many new terrain types.

Mario Valle showed the picture to me (he is my old PBEM opponent - we currently have 2 games going - one for each side). I hope that was OK...

I think Rowlf ad 3 variations in his maps (various brightness and color saturation).

I just can’t imagine a reason why I should have something against…:) Did he show you allies?

I was talking about the brightest one. It's still to dark to my taste.

O.
I must have missed the initial post on the location of Naru, but - if the location is right this time, then Ocean Is. between Nauru and the Gilberts is missing. And what is the tiny speck of island three hexes to the NW of what is called Nauru? To me it looks like the location of Nauru isn't right this time either. And in UV - if it is not Nauru, then what else? [&:]
