A Quick update...it is midnight of day 5, less than 24-hours to go! Mook holds, St Anna is a pitched battle going back and forth but at midnight control still lies with the Germans....Allied forces converge on the bridges west of Nijmegen as the engineers dig in and prepare to blow the bridges. The 10th Recon is all that holds them back from the engineers. Detailed AAR in the works....

Good one Gary ... looked like you were lost there. Nice recovery at the last second. Reminds me of a certain VP location on a certain highway. [:D]

Excellent AAR guys.

I really think i'll buy this game. Have I heard correctly that there are to be follow up games to this?

Yakstock/Eric - are you planning on playing anymore scenarios against each other? If so please post an AAR - very entertaining.

Regards,

Steven

I am sure we will play many more games together! I do believe I will take time off of the AAR action for a while and just play some online matches. AAR's take a lot out of you! I look forward to finding some other online players and having a go at some new matches.

Thanks Eric and Gary. Great stuff! [:)]

Eric,

I thought you had Gary's number there but you persisted with Bn level attacks when a series of full blooded Bde level attacks would have been the go. Never underestimate the first principle of the offense - CONCENTRATION. Remember that while a well sighted and supported company can often defeat a Bn attack, rarely can it survive a full on Bde assault. I agree with Gary's remarks about failing to control and then retake Mook early on. Had you committed one whole Gds Gp to this action initially, you would have stymied Gary's main ploy in the south and secured your base. Then committing two of the other Gds Gps to a series of rolling Bde level attacks towards Nijmegen I'm sure would have paid dividends. Similarly you split your drive to Honinghutie into two Bn level advances, each of which were fairly comfortably dealt with by a series of company blocks. Better had you concentrated these Bns to advance along one axis together.

We were all rooting for you and make no mistake you have given everyone renewed hope and I hope enthusiasm to take on Gary. He's a formidable and wily opponent. We who are about to "club" salute you. [&o]

Cheers Dave. Had I been aware that 214th Bde was not going to press home its attack I would have concentrated Gds gps more. But a) I needed to hold a reserve somewhere and b) my primary strategy was take Nijmegen. Splitting the two Bns West of the canal was a calculated risk but I thought I could draw enough Germans away from Nijmegen by splitting the axis of attack and in some respects this worked. I wasn't overly bothered about capturing the bridges and if I had I don't think it would have made a difference to the final result. As regards Mook, I fully expected an all out attack on the bridge from this direction and I didn't want to commit my Armour against Gary's (knowing what he's like with artillery[;)]) only to leave the bridge exposed. Again, if 214th Bde had pushed home it's attack instead of pfaffing around constantly re-organising I could have risked more to retake Mook. But there you go. The attack on Nijmegen should have involved 3 full brigades plus 2 bns and Guards Amd HQ - losing nearly a third of that to a glitch in the AI (Whine, whine, whine[:D]) was a bitter pill to swallow.
