When I made that post, it still said HMS, not HMCS. And yes, by the look of those flotation devices, she'll float alright.

Good we got a consensus in this important point. Next issue is a propulsion device: how do you say in the US? a propeller, or... what's the other word? I forgot, but, nah, in whatever the other word is, I don't want anyone "propelling" Miss Sunshine.
Paddlewheels that's what's adequate..

No-no-no.. no cruiser... Support ship.
Her role is to raise the morale of the poor Canadian troops overseas. Where HMCS Sunshine passes by, the Canadian flag proudly flies from a hundred poles!!

PS: And that's before I even started with my threat of placing increasingly summary uniforms on Miss Sunshine for each additional day of delay on 1.3!!

One of my favorites - even if they do all wear 60s hair styles and clothes in the movie. This picture is funny if you look at it. Major Stud looks like he's just out for a "Sunday morning drive" - as indeed he is - while Mrs. Eddington is going ape s**t. This picture shows why men don't let women drive if they have the choice.

It's a real hoot. I finally got tired of the last third where Preminger gets around to playing with his plywood boats (will we ever forget the line of PT boats where the .50 cal gunner is the same doll for every boat?), but the strategic idea, as expressed by the Duke, that "If we can get a flock of B-17s in there, we can control everything for 1,000 miles in every direction" is so lame I still laugh at it every time I hear it.
Kirk Douglas's complete lack of understanding of his lines is priceless, too. "All right, sir, I want all facts and figures by 0730 tomorrow morning." Put Broderick back in charge!

This might be the expendables I'm thinking of (it is), but I still laugh when the sabotaged PT boat gets hit, and so the CO stands on the highest part of the PT boat with a megaphone yelling "Abandon ship, abandon...ARRRGGGGG!!!!" I mean, its a freaking PT boat, he can stand by the wheel and they'll still hear him.
As to In Harms Way, there are so many inaccuracies its laughable. "How many Battleships are answering the sortie?" "None sir. (so much for the Nevada)" "Out of 9 battleships? (I guess Utah was a BB after all!"
Not to mention that compared to Sink the Bismarck, the naval battle scenes were incredibly fake. It is absolutely ridiculous.

But it must be true. I just heard Nick Nolte in The Thin Red Line say exactly the same thing about Guadalcanal two nights ago!

Serves you right for watching bad movies (with all respect to the Duke)

I could tolerate the military inaccuracies with In Harm's way -- well, maybe I couldn't; either way, it's the plot that kills me. I can just imagine the producers of that movie sitting around and saying, "You know what a World War II picture needs? A soap opera!" [8|]

The worst part? Patricia O'Neill. Can you imagine kissing that drop-scoop steamshovel jaw of hers? Besides, you can tell from her voice that she was a three-pack-a-day girl.
If I've got four stripes on my shoulderboards, I'm gettin' me some good lookin' poosy.

In that case check out Kim Hunter in uniform in 'A Matter of Lfe and Death' with David Niven (aka 'Stairway to Heaven' in USA). Also apposite references to anglo-american relations
I know - a bit off track for a war movie.
